  • I don’t know that I understand what you are wanting to do exactly. But to find out the length between each marker just double click between them and you will see a bar appear between the markers and the bottom left (below the time line) you will see the time that is encapsuled between the two markers.

  • If you tell it to render with LFF instead of progressive, it will override the default settings of the file itself and rid the event of half of its temporal resolution. You are basically throwing away half the fields of the images that make up the event.

Vegas plus a script like Stillmotion from Vasst should make a nice “Ken Burns” type effect in short order for you.

However with the backgrounds and foreground images you are talking about, they might limit the quality depending on their size and resolution.

I don’t understand the “native” vs. “independent” rendering engine question. You can only render/encode within Vegas when using Vegas.

Download the 30 day trial of Vegas Pro and then download the 15 day trial of Vasst Stillmotion and see what you can come up with.

I would say yes there is an advantage if you do pre renders or ram previews. I have an dual processor 8 core system and I have 8 gigs of ram. You really need about two gigs of ram per each cpu core. I really need 16 gigs of ram for mine.

Vegas 9 is limited by only what windows can handle.

I would set your chapters in vegas (the “m” key) and then when you go to File-Render As make sure you check the box that says save markers…

As for AC3 audio, just go to File- Render As and in the available templates choose one of the two AC3 templates and tweak it to how you want.

For the video do the same thing as above and choose mpeg2 and DVDA Architect Video (or the widescreen if your footage is such) and render out from that. This one does not save audio with the file.

  • I would not go the route you are proposing. I would indeed do two renders in Vegas (more control over the properties of the render). I would do one in HD adjusted to fit your BluRay disc (bitrate, etc.) and then another for DVD using the DVD Architect video widescreen template and AC3 audio template for audio.

This way DVD does not handle the compression but Vegas does which gives you more control over quality.

Instead of changing the project properties, just choose the standard definition template that best fits your project (probably DVD Architect Video Template for the video and AC3 for the audio).

Also, why are you changing it to 4:3 instead of leaving it 16:9? Just curious.

As for the PAR changing, HD is 1.333 while SD is 1.000 so the aspect ratio is going to change per the spec.

Look at your preview window. There should be an icon over top of it that looks like a circle that is divided in half with two different shades of coloring. Click it and see if your fx shows up again.

You can, have two in the same project- it is called a nested veg. Just drag the veg file to the timeline.

As for best render setting- use DVD architect (either widescreen or the other) depending on your format and then encode your audio as AC3. Then save those in the same folder with the same name. Open DVD Architect and point it to the video file and it will find the audio file automatically. Now it will not have to re encode the video as it is already compliant for DVD.

Also, you can adjust the settings under the custom button to give a higher or lower bitrate depending on the length of your video.
