Dvd quality
Hi all. First post so apologies if its in the wrong place.
I have not purchased Vegas as yet. I am doing some research before spending MORE money (does it ever stop).
I am a photographer in the UK and part of my wedding packages are a DVD slideshow of the album spreads. I have been using proshow which is great for creating pc exe shows but it is pretty lousy for the dvd output, even when creating an iso.
Would Vegas be a better option? I realise the limitations of standard Dvd and the sucky side of tv resolution. But when I look at some of the commercial Dvds that display images within the presentation, the quality is HUGELY better than mine.
I just want the best I can get to be honest. Can vegas output to an independant rendering engine or just the native one?
When I use just single images the Proshow Dvd’s are just about passable. But with the album spreads, no matter how I resize them or what settings I use, its complete pants.

Vegas plus a script like Stillmotion from Vasst should make a nice “Ken Burns” type effect in short order for you.
However with the backgrounds and foreground images you are talking about, they might limit the quality depending on their size and resolution.
I don’t understand the “native” vs. “independent” rendering engine question. You can only render/encode within Vegas when using Vegas.
Download the 30 day trial of Vegas Pro and then download the 15 day trial of Vasst Stillmotion and see what you can come up with.

I mentioned the render thing because I used to use 3ds max for a few years and the independent render engines worked better than max’s own. I know of course this is not the same thing, I just wondered if there were any other options to increase quality.

At the risk of sounding borderline thick. The still motion product info on their site is blank. Is there another source for the trial version that you can think of?

Vegas works quite well with photos, but you need to size them properly to obtain the best results. It’s forte does not lie in resizing photos. I usually, using Photoshop, adjust them to about twice the resolution of the video screen, and save them as PNG files.
More resolution may be needed for “Ken Burns” effects, but you don’t need third party scripts to use that effect. Vegas has pan/crop functions at the clip level, and track motion functions at the track level.

Unfortunately no.
I know they’re working on a 64-bit version so maybe that’s why.

I have bags of resolution so downsizing not a prob.I have downloaded the trial of vegas. Will try as is. Anyone else with any ideas feel free to advise.
I am a pain in the ass but I am sincerely grateful for the help.
