There must be an error somewhere in your sheet. the column headings in your excel (or txt) must match the column headings in FCP exactly.

October 8, 2005 at 12:12 am in reply to: Z1 hdv to DVCProHD 100 < how to?

Would it be possible to do as gary says and use the 1080i60 DVCPro HD easy set up, and then change the deck control to firewire in the capture window? Or maybe this workflow is a pipe dream and I’m smoking something goofy.

  • Maybe I’m crazy, but I thought you could down convert your HDV to DV out of the camera (or deck). That way, you won’t be fighting the HDV and DV codec in the same timeline as you would if you upgraded to FCP5. Set FCP 4.5 to capture DV, set your camera or deck to downconvert the HDV to regular DV and you’re in bizzzzz. Also, look in to lumiereHD as I think they had the first solution to capturing HDV before FCP5 was introduced.

    Cheers. Hope this helps.

I would not recommend trying to capture 10 but uncompressed on a single internal SATA. You would need at least two Raided together, and preferably four. Try capturing at a lower but rate codec (such as 8 bit or DV50). The single sata should be able to handle 8 bit, but it will fill up pretty quick and therefore slow down. DV50 will be no problem on an internal SATA. For 10 bit, you should look into building an external SATA Raid, or get yourself an external fibre raid. Even though the fibre raids are pricey, you won’t be disappointed. If you are on a budget one option to check out is the Lacie S2S. It looks pretty sweet at a very sweet price, also all you need to do is install the card in the g5 and you are up and running. It also supports raid 1 and 5 redundancy in case of a drive failure.

    Good luck and happy raiding.

Are you sure you have the io drivers installed on the ‘bad’ machine? If not, uninstall then reinstall.

  • Enable, then reenable the animation clip. That will break the relationship to the render file. I forget the keyboard shortcut but I think there’s a menu option in Tools. You can also try the render manager to delete the render file.

[CharlieX] “every effect is either rendered or labeled light green as “Full””

Even though it’s marked as full, it’s an rt effect. What you need to do is go up to the sequence menu in both the ‘render selection’ and ‘render all’ submenus and make sure the the full option has a check mark by it. That way you will be rendering everything all the while as you edit and you won’t have to wait for 40 minutes as your two hour sequence renders when it’s time to lay off. FCP is rendering your full rt effects before the layoff to ensure that you don’t drop frames when you select ETT. Render it all until you get the light bluish line. Put your cursor on the line and it’ll say ‘rendered’

As far as the Text3D best quality problems, I’m not sure. I do most of my text in Motion as I get better results, but then I have to deal with RGB to YUV stuff (6 of one half dozen of the other). There seems to be mixed results as to what is best in terms of the render settings. I haven’t figured this one out yet myself.

I don’t know about the Text3D render problems either. Between problem #2 and problem #3, it seems the common denominator is text 3d. Maybe it’s time to look for another cg method.

I bet you have upgraded your systems, and not done a clean install. Unfortunately it is recommended to do a clean install when upgrading to tiger and QuickTime 7. Getting a brand new drive and installing everything from the ground up will produce the most trouble free results. If you have upgraded without a clean install, see this document:

    https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852

It will restore your firewire connection in FCP5.x & qt 7.x

    Hope this helps.
