Hit control q and select the blackmagic preset for the codec you are using. For instance, if you are rendering out 10 bit NTSC, select the 10 bit NTSC blackmagic easy set up, create a new sequence, import your footage, put it in the newly created sequence and you are off and editing.

Look at Graeme Nattress’ Standards Conversion plug in. It works wonderfully.

I don’t think your Extreme will do a standards conversion on the fly, but I could be wrong.

I think we are getting confused. The Quicktime MPEG-2 EXPORT (not playback) has been disbaled directly out of QuickTime 7. Playback of MPEG2 transport streams and m2vs should work just fine.

Have you tried choosing the dv easy setup (the stock one, not the blackmagic one) before turning on the deck? I would choose the dv easy setup and FCP should say that it cannot find the external device. Hit ok. Hide fcp. Turn on the firewire deck, and if fcp doesn’t find it automatically, refresh devices. Also, there might be a bus conflict between your lacie and your firewire deck. You should have your lacie on a separate FW800 card (they are under $50 US).

Also, what kind of dv deck do you have? If there’s component outputs, why don’t you just run your deck through the Extreme? It might save you from all of this hassle.

On Walter’s advice, I picked up my first tablet about 4 months ago and love it. It took some getting used to and some time to get the settings how i wanted, but after I figured out what worked best for me, it has been awesome. As Walter says, if you work in AE or photoshop, it truly shines there as well. Plus, my wrist loves me for it as I seem to have taken away it’s pain.

The transfer from 4.5 to 5 might have something to do with it, but I’m not sure as I have not tried that particular workflow. How about exporting an edl? You can then relink the media that already exists and then redigitize the stuff that doesn’t.

You are media managing just the sequence and not the entire project, correct?

I don’t think apple has removed it as everything works as it should on my machine (tiger fcp studio, etc.) Did you upgrade or do a clean install? A clean install will give you the best results. Have you installed all of fcp studio, or just fcp5?
