According to his post after you enter log & capture mode, you have to click on clip settings then click on create new clip on start/stop.

Pay attention to Steve O’Connor’s post

It explains how to change the capture presets to ignore the timecode breaks.

It appears that the timecode break function is ignored in the preferences when using hdv.

Okay. Take in timecode in and out information from the bad clips, open your log & capture window, type in the ins and outs and relog your clips and try capturing that way. It sounds like you have something set up wrong if you keep crashing and losing data. How is your equipment hooked up? What are you digitizing from and what are you digitizing to? IS your equipment set up properly?

Open up a completely new project and choose the appropriate easy set up and try and import the clips that way. Maybe your project is corrupted. It is always good to trash your preferences after a crash. Have you changed anything with the machine recently? When was the last time you had a really good dream? What time is it on Monday? Sorry it’s getting late and I have to sleep soon.

You have to change your user preferences. I don’t have FCP5 in front of me right now, but it’s under the file menu and it’s called user preferences. In there find the where it mentions timecode breaks and change the drop down menu to warn after capture. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but I don’t remember exactly where they are. You can disable the autosave right there as well.

There might not be any visible breaks in the footage. This used to happen to me with DVCPRO HD footage all the time, even though it was the same continuos shot. Please change the preferences and tell me how that works out for you.

If the drive wasn’t fast enough you would get a dropped frames error and capture would abort. It would not break up your clip into sequential clips. This is the behavior of capturing timecode breaks, or what FCP THINKS are timecode breaks. You have to trick it and tell it to keep capturing and you will be good. It’s mind of over matter.

Sounds like it’s time to trash your prefernces and start over with some new ones.

If that doesn’t work, run disk warrior on the lacie and rebuild the directory.

Those, my friend, are timecode breaks. Go into your preferences and tell Final Cut to warn you after the capture instead of make new clip on timecode breaks. That should get you through.

Also, take off that blasted auto save and start working apple-s into your workflow frequently. Auto save has hurt me in the past (final cut 4.1) and I’ve never used it since. Save early, save often.

Glad to hear you got it working. There’s a bunch of variables with hardware and it’s hard to try and track down the right one. I should have advised you to check out the Decklink control panel in the system preferences and see what the was telling you as well. I used to have a decklink but I’m not too familiar with what they are running now in terms of drivers and preferences and such.

Coyote might be on to something, and uninstall and reinstall of the decklink drivers might fix the problem if this happens in the future.

Did you digitize with the regular NTSC easy set up? Or are you trying to work at 24p. 24p Normal means you digitze and edit at 29.97m unless you are planning on suing cinema toold to remove the pulldown.
