That’s probably what it is. Even though it’s full resolution, FCP likes those rendered for output to insure that it won’t drop frames. This way, FCP is actually laying off hard media instead of a real time “vapor media” effect.

In your sequence>render settings menu. make sure that all of the options are checked, including full. This will make sure that FCP is rendering even the real time effects. This is a good habit to get into. be sure to check the render all and render selection menus.

Cool. Try rendering the audio effects or mixing down your audio and see if that clears up the problem. how are you monitoring the audio? THrough a dv deck, through a capture card, or through the computer itself?

Perhaps there’s an option in the VBW 75 to change the reference from input video to external genlock. Just a thought as I am not familiar with that deck.

No problem. Please be aware, if you use your Kona for audio monitoring with anything but FCP and you change your output levels with the volume up down keys on your keyboard, you will have to reset this control panel as the levels will change. That is why I do not recommended it for use with your system sounds.

This is from the Kona 2 support page, but I bet it applies for your Kona Lh as well. It is not recommended to use your Kona for your system audio output.

If you have a mixer, simply take the audio out of the headphone jack of the G5 and run into your audio monitors, leave the Kona for FCP.

Open the kona control panel, click the control tab, select the default kona output to anything but Macintosh Desktop.

What are your system specs and how are you monitoring your footage and audio?

First thing to do is check the tapes using a dv deck or camera that is disconnected from FCP.

Okay all, here’s the step by step.

Make sure the current timeline you want is open and active. Hit Apple-0. Select 2 channel output and then select dual mono (as opposed to stereo). Now, control click the track right by the autoselect button and select which output you want. In your case, Ed, you want a1&a2 to be set to 1, and a3-a6 to be set to 2. This will send channels a1 & a2 out to channel 1 of your deck or mixer, and the rest of the channels out to channel 2. Open the mixer in FCP (option-6) and toggle the button just above the master output, it looks like two speakers butting heads, or kissing, or whatever. That determines if FCP downmixes everything to stereo, or if it splits it to the assigned tracks. This downmix button will apply to monitoring AND to laying off to tape. If you want split tracks, you need to click this downmix button to hear and layoff correctly. This procedure also applies to 4 or more tracks of output.
