I don’t know anything about Lightwave, but it sounds like you have an image sequence?

You can either open the image sequence in QT Pro and export a qt movie, or, you can put your image sequence in a timeline in FCP, and then drag that timeline into another timeline (called nesting) and then the image sequence will appear as one clip with which you can apply global actions/effects.

DVCPRO HD takes up a little bit more space than DV and is capable of running off of FW800 drives no problem. It will require an HD capture card to view out to an HD monitor. That way you are working in HD, not SD.

If you’re working on 720p24 stuff, it’s only 6 Mb/sec. DV is 3.

It’s great if you are planning on reconforming back to uncompressed HD.

I also found that the timecode window shows up in After Effects output, but the numbers are all blank (which makes perfect sense).

The only caveat is that if you want to mix and match footage, they all have to be in the same codec.

For instance, if you want to add this Digibeta footage to an existing DV timeline, you have to digitize the digibeta into the dv codec.

If you choose to use dv50 (which is a nice compromise between quality and space as long as you aren’t doing a lot of effects) you’ll have to redigitize your dv footage into the DV50 codec.

Cool.

How can I liken auto select to Media 100? The two times that auto select really shines for me is when you are copying and pasting from other timelines. You set the auto-select boxes on which tracks you want the copied clip or series of clips to go. ALso, when I’m doing the ole control-v edit, auto select comes in ultra handy as I’m only chopping the track or tracks that are auto-selected.

I came from Media 100 myself, and it’s hard to beat FCPs interface once you learn the ins & outs.

Look in your Applications folder and you should see a folder marked “Kona utilites”. In there, should be an uninstaller.

As long as you are on FCP5, Tiger, & QT 7.0.x, you’re golden.

FCP4.5 & QT6.x does not support more than two channels of audio capture.

A full uninstall and reinstall of the AJA drivers sounds like it’s in order, but I must warn you that you will lose all of your custom presets/easy setups and such. Not sure if you want that in the middle of your project. I did it though, and 10 minutes later I was back up and running, no errors no conflicts.

I had some problems until I trashed FCPs preferences. Give that a shot.

I was getting that Kona wasn’t recognized in FCP (even though the video played out fine). I trashed Prefs and all is well. I had to set everything back up though.
