You might have to enable high quality viewing in quicktime on the PC, and what exactly so you mean by terrible?

I forget exactly how to do it, but it’s something about opening the movie properties and finding the tickbox that says “Enable High Quality” or something like that.

This is an educated guess, and is from a long buried memory. SOrry if the details are shady.

I’m sorry, but you are going to have to upgrade to FCP5. FCP 4.5 requires an AGP graphics card. The Quads use a PCIe graphics card.

FCP5 accepts AGP or PCIe.

These threads come up often and everyone is pretty much right.

One thing to keep in mind is that the decklinks used to not offer 720p24 downconversion, this might have changed in recent driver updates. Is this something you might need?

You really have to weigh out exactly what you think you will need and then ask to see a demo at a VAR and try everything you need to try.

I’m not here to bash either company, but for my specific needs, AJA has been great for me and I’ve tried both. I’m sure there’s many people who are in my opposite position.

AJA also offers all of the solutions in the Multibridge Studio, just not in one box.

Check both forums and read the kinds of things people are having problems with. This should give you an idea of some things you might face when setting up a new system. Please keep in mind that these forums are mostly used by people having so please think objectively. If you need testimonials, I’m sure each prospective company has them listed proudly on their website.

you cant do what you’re doing in an adjustment layer sense, but you can set up a filter on one clip. Drag that to your favorites folder in the browser, select the rest of the clips and drag that filter to those clips.

You can set up a filter on one clip, then hit copy (apple-c), select the rest of the clips you want to add the filter to and hit Past Attributes (Option-v). Select the filter tickbox and then it’s pasted to all of the clips. This method is okay if you only have the one broadcast safe filter on the original clip, otherwise it’ll paste all of the filters you have on the original clip to the rest of the clips.

Nesting is okay to do as long s you don’t have to media manage as nesting can get goofy with the media manager.

Like Shane says, you should really consider capturing to the 720p24 DVCPro HD codec. The data rate is just less than twice of DV, it calculates out to be about 6 MB/sec.

The timecode on Varicam is still based on 30fps timecode, not 24fps timecode, so you’re fine there. Is this piece graphics intensive? If it is then you can consider at the very end, to redig at uncompressed 8 or 10 bit HD to help out your graphics.

You can figure out how much it’ll be in dv and how much it’ll be in DVCPROHD and uncompressed HD and then compare/contrast/discuss/noodle on the differences.

If you want to do an SD offline, then you can capture in the DV codec out of the SD-SDI of the 1200a.

You should set it to 4 for the aja io with the latest drivers/firmware that you can download from the internet.

Who did your install?

There’s all kinds of variables, and I’d start with cabling, how’s it all tied together? Aja out to beta in, beta out to mixer, to aja in. Powered speakers in to control room out.

That’s the low down basics. You can add the mixer in between it all and use the channel mute alt 3-4 buttons to route sound out and prevent feedback. This would alos put the mixer in between FCP and your beta if you want that, but usually you can run straight out of FCP. Add your computer audio into one or two channels of the mixer and you can have sound out to your monitors that way.

Make sense?

You can also set your beta deck to e-e mode if you want a/v signals running through it all the time. You have to dig through the menus to achieve this.

I could go on, but I think we should start with all of this.

Use a program like super duper, or carbon copy cloner to clone your hard drive. You should do this anyway as it’s that fastest way to rebuild a complete system. Or even faster, clone it to a SATA drive, and then if the shite hits the fan all you have to do is pop in the other SATA drive and you’re good to go.

Add a stereo mini plug to stereo rca cord from your G5s headphone output and plug that in to your mixer.
