Your footage will still be digitized in 60i (29.97), but you can turn the sequence field dominance to none (instead of lower). That way any graphics/titles you make in FCP will render out with no field dominance (progressive) and the graphics will match the footage.

You have sort of the right idea. If you stick to this method you have to open up the motion tab of each clip and twirl down the distort parameter. Change the aspect ratio to -33.33. The trick is you have to do this for each and every clip.

The easiest way to do what you are doing is to set up a regular 4:3 timeline (anamorphic is unchecked) and then drag your 16:9 sequence into the 4:3 sequence. You are nesting the 16:9 inside the 4:3 sequence. This should take care of all of the distorting for you. If not, single click the one long single clip in the timeline and hit return to load it up in the viewer. Select the motion tab and change the distort aspect ratio to -33.33.

Give some more info. DO you have HD tape? Do you have HD files? What are you trying to do and what equipment do you have?

Craig’s right. We had an HD panasonic projector in a suite that I do some work in and we used the wratten 47B dark blue filter to essentially give us the blue only. WE ran bars through the projector and it worked pretty well for when we got onsite and ran it through the pro projectors. I was very pleased at the quality of color from our ‘cheap’ projector to the pro ones.

Don’t discard the old manual and analog methods, Toke 😉

    Sometimes it’s easier than software.

Change the preset from Dual Pass VBR to 1 Pass. I have much better luck. Since your program is short, it won’t effect anything in negative wuality sense.

You could use the “fastest encode” presets and it will essentially get you the same results.

Graeme hit it on the head. Major in cool stuff 101, 102 & 103. Take classes that interest you, even if it’s basket weaving. A well rounded education is extremely valuable when you join the world of the working stiffs, no matter what people tell ya about specializing.

You want to learn about the technical side of the business? Read and intern. There’s a ton of books out there about digital video, film, color, and engineering. Go to school, make some friends, use school resources to travel and practice another language. DOn’t worry about owning the world quite yet, you’ll have plenty of time for that if you really want to choose that path. You must first gain experience, and the only way to do that is to get up everyday and learn as much as you can from other people. If there’s a professor that sparks your interest, make sure you take the time and go chat with them outside of class. Ask for help. Use the gift of experienced knowledge to further your own curiosities. When there’s no one around to answer your questions, make the most of your time by researching what you want to know more about. Most importantly, you have to remember to have fun along the way.

    Good luck in your choices.

Hmm, did you use the Kona uninstaller to uninstall?

That’s what fixed it for me. I’d try it again.

Make sure you have eveyrthing quit before you install.

If that still does not work, I’d zap some pram to scramble the computer’s brains for a bit and force it to remember it has a Kona card in there.

[Barend Onneweer] “Once the 64-bit MacIntel workstations hit the market in a years time or so – it seems Adobe won’t be far behind.”

Yeah, I’m just saying that if people are looking to wait to buy Mac desktops for an Intel version of AE, it might be time to invest in that quad machine. It’ll last ya at least two years, at least.

I’m shouting out to the folks that are on the fence, who render everyday.

This a practical post, rather than a design or flame war post.

And practically, don’t forget if you have any connective guts inside your machine, you’ll have to upgrade them to PCIe.
