What do the scopes tell you? Are the black levels all the way black where they need to be?

You aren’t using the primary storyline (the empty box in the middle).
Put the playhead where you want to insert, go to the clip you want to insert, and hit ‘w’.
Or put those clips in a secondary storyline by deleting them all, as long as they don’t overlap, and hit command-g, then select the shelf (which is the thicker line above the secondary) place your playhead where you want, and hit ‘w’.
Also, I would suggest taking some training. Ripple training is good place to start go over some FCPX timeline basics.

QuickTime can record your screen. Open QuickTime, File > New Screen recording.

You can move the feather and falloff controls beyond the “100” slider limit in the inspector. Just scrub the number and it will keep going making it as soft as you want.

Maybe try using “Shape Mask” filter instead? That would allow you to make a vertical oval with falloff.

I see what you mean. What happens if you use the regular vignette filter and not the copy? I understand that you might not get the rotation that you need, but setting that aside for a second, does it work?
My guess is that your motion template must not be setup correctly, and it is cropping image when not intended.

The edge of the frame only goes so far. Make the vignette smaller than the edge of the frame.

You either have to make the photo “bigger” by photoshopping more background in to it (a set extension to some degree), or adjust the vignette to fit within the frame boundaries of the image.

That’s what I’m getting at Joe. He says it’s in the library, reports that it’s on the library, but somehow the media doesn’t seem to be in the library.

I literally drag and drop the entire project – library and all assets to the backup drive.
If everything is truly in the library, you shouldn’t need to drag any assets, only the library.
