No that didn’t work. I tried. I ended up importing all the clips then exporting them back to a blank disc. However every time I tried to batch export I got error messages so the only way I was successful was to export the clips one by one. 96 clips. Batch would have been nice.

I actually like the way FCP handles my media. I can understand where it would get frustrating when you’re switching drives a lot though.
For me I have one 3TB volume. I set the volume and FCP creates a render folder, a capture scratch folder and audio render file. That’s all I have to do. When I start a new project it automatically creates a folder with my project name in each of the existing folders. If I need media from a project I can find it easily by going to the appropriate folder.
I think problems start to arise when working with multiple drives or when people make a project folder then assign the capture to that folder because FCP will then create a new project folder in the capture scratch folder anyway.
Like others have said you just have to understand that FCP is going to work like FCP, not other NLEs. Once I figured out how it worked I found it quite easy and that I only needed to do an initial set up.

Let me start by saying I haven’t watched your video yet, but its a great idea to document your family.
In August my Dad went into the hospital. We were told he wasn’t going to make it. To make a long story short he is now home and doing well. He’s still healing from his aliments and will be a different person for the rest of his life (which probably won’t be more than a couple of years, but here’s to hoping for more).
I keep telling myself I need to take a day with him and my camera. If not for myself, but for my daughter who at 9 months old will probably never get to know him very well or remember him much.
You’ve inspired me to get this taken care sooner than later. Thanks.

The 6 octo’s that we had come in last week we’re all Leopard. No Tiger anywhere. No SanMP drivers, no Kona Drivers. It’s a real pain. And our work around isn’t exactly legal as we pulled a laptop with its tiger disc and did a target disc install. I guess we have licensed copies of Leopard when the time comes.
The worst part is our VAR (AVI Systems) didn’t even know about the problems when they came to install everything.

I was told by a sony engineer that the new USB XDCAM drives will only work with leapord and since that’s not being released until the 26th…

I just downloaded the video you were using as an example and pulled up the get info in quicktime and here is that video’s specs
H.264
720×405
Millions
AAC stereo 48k
FPS -29.97
data size – 23.49 megs for 2:21 TRT
data rate – 1389.38 kbits/sThis might give you a starting point.
Good luck

Not really, but I did find a work around although it was tedious.
I exported each of the audio tracks out of quicktime. Imported the clips into final cut and and linked with the video. I also had to re insert a lot of edits to get the audio in.
Each clip had 4 audio tracks that I needed to export and link.
I’m assuming that FCP 4.5 is not wholly compatible with the current quicktime version.

>Did the beta include a black & white version of the animation?< No it did not.

>If you haven’t got the codec, you won’t see the alpha. What do you see? < I see the graphic just no alpha channel. I have no trouble at all playing the avi files, I just don't see the alpha. >You haven’t said what “no lukc” means. What do you see? Anything?< I see everything that is suppose to be there. I just haven't got the alpha channel (black holes) to be transparent. >An alpha-only file is often provided out of 3D apps. It can be an actual alpha image over transparency but it can also be a simple monochrome image that you will use with a “make alpha” filter or a track matte function.< The alpha only file just shows as solid white. >Call the source of these files and ask for something more universally acceptable like Animation codec.< That's not going to happen because I don't think he's that smart as the first time I asked for the animation he sent it to me on a beta sp tape. I then requested a data file with an alpha channel and this is what he sent. I don't even know what equipment he has. I opened the files on a PC with AE and the alpha channel wasn't transparent there either so I've come to believe that I'm just not going to get it. This is my workable solution, I captured the beta tape (because the data file he sent didn't inlcude the whole animation anyway) brought the clip into AE. Used the treshold to great a black and white that I can use as a motion matte.

How are you getting your files uncompressed?
