WRAW format with alpha
I recieved a graphic today that is compressed as an avi in the WRAW format. When I look at the properties in quicktime it says millions plus, but I don’t seem to be getting an alpha channel. I tried in FCP and I tried in AE where I interpurted the file as straight and when that didn’t work I tried premultipied with black. No luck, any suggestions?
Also inluded on the disc was a file labled apha only. When I open this the picture is entirely white and when I look at the properties it is just millions. The two files run the same length however the file size is quite a bit smaller so I’m assuming there is nothing there. Any suggestions on that?

> I recieved a graphic today that is compressed as an avi in the WRAW format. < Don't know that codec, AVI is notoriously weird when it comes to alpha processing, I doubt there is a Quicktime component for it. There are very few AVI codecs at all for QT. It can be an actual alpha image over transparency but it can also be a simple monochrome image that you will use with a "make alpha" filter or a track matte function. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I then requested a data file with an alpha channel and this is what he sent. I don't even know what equipment he has. I opened the files on a PC with AE and the alpha channel wasn't transparent there either so I've come to believe that I'm just not going to get it. This is my workable solution, I captured the beta tape (because the data file he sent didn't inlcude the whole animation anyway) brought the clip into AE. Used the treshold to great a black and white that I can use as a motion matte.

Did the beta include a black & white version of the animation? That could be a ‘hi-con’ to be used as an alpha matte.
