HD compression for web
Posted by Eamonspro on July 17, 2007 at 1:12 pmHello,
I have a question for any professionals out there that know how to compress HD video for web. I’m trying to get quality standards that reach this level for web. Can anyone point me to a good website and/or formula to use and what codecs that should be used. I would be doing software compression through Final Cut Pro or compressor.\
Here is a sample of the quality I’m trying to achieve.

Thanks to all for any assistance you can provide.

July 17, 2007 at 4:08 pmLots of studios (mine included) distribute HD dailies as Windows Media 9 files.
here are some basic specs:
1280×720 (all are done this way to keep size+interlacing issues down)
Video: Bitrate VBR, framerate 29.97, average bitrate 4mbps
Audio: VBR Quality 25, 44khz 2 channelThis would require an investment in flip4mac pro.
I’ve had lots of clients not been able to playback H.264 quicktimes or quicktimes at all, so thats what I do.

July 17, 2007 at 4:13 pmThanks for the input guys. I’m looking for more specifics on readying hd video for web streaming so clients would be able to look at it over a website or ftp.
Basically I’m trying to achieve the same quality that the below video from helinet has on their website and to maximize quality while keeping file sizes small.
Is there a formula that one could point me to for figuring out the data rates and keyframes to maximize this quality?
Thanks again, I hope I’m a little clearer this time!

keyframe formulas that maximize efficiency:
150 for 15fps video
300 for 30fps video
the data rate is 4mbps as I said.
