Greg,

Grab one side or the other of the event by clicking and drag it to make it shorter.
You may have to zoom in the time line with the mouse wheel.

Does the render process start fast (watch the speed of the frame numbers) and then slow to a crawl?

You have automatic cross-fades turned on (the default).
Click the icon on the toolbar that looks like a cross-fade and the behavior will stop.

Mine didn’t load either. I did get the splash screen and I knew that it froze on video plugins. I renamed my Newblue folder and Vegas fired right up. I removed and installed again the Newblue plugins. everything is back to normal now.

These days hard drive speed is really a non-issue. I can copy a 1GB file to another location on the same drive in under 7 seconds. I can copy the same file to another drive in under 4 seconds. In either case I have read and written the entire file. Because of read-ahead technology the data our rendering requires (input) is ready to be used before it is needed. Thanks to caching technology the data our rendering produces is written at the convenience of the i/o system, independent of the program (Vegas). When our rendering speeds for a 1GB file are less than 7 seconds then hard drive speed will matter.

I had crash issues with Vegas 9. I did a clean install of Win7, disabled automatic updates, stopped connecting to the internet, and voila, no crashes. Get another computer for surfing and junkware, it’s worth it!

Is this some kind of elaborate hoax? I find it very hard to believe that FCP survived until now without this basic functionality. This, in combination with what was revealed in the video describes an NLE that, prior to this release, was not very intuitive or productive. How then could FCP editors be in such demand?

Maybe Sony Creative Software needs to fire a few programmers and steal away some of Apples marketing gurus.

Vegas Pro is a better tool than FCPX.

Wow, audio automagically moves with the video, sample accurate resolution for aligning audio, drag tansitions and fades, right-click selecting fade velocity. The L&J cut section would have been really cool if this was 1996. I can’t believe this impresses them so much.

Curves can sharpen it and it can help. You might try boosting the saturation which can be done in a few places, my choice would be color corrector (secondary). I would adjust the saturation before the curves.
