    Just curious…
Are you out of room for an internal drive, or is this a laptop?

Esata is my choice for external drives. My jbod is connected with esata.

  • Steve,

I have three: Bump map, Height map, and Displacement map.

I’m under the impression this is all there is. (I don’t use the custom setting.)

  • Steve,

    I saw this last night…
I’ll check it out when I get to work.

I think they hid this option for safety. Some of these settings can seriously screw up Vegas unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I think they were very generous in giving us the option to tweak the internals. Try adjusting internal settings on Premiere Pro! Good luck.

  • Dave,

    1. Connect the camera and try the Device Explorer on the view menu.

    2. Drag them to the timeline, if this does not work install the correct codec (usually from Panasonic) and try again.

    3. Always build in HD, re-render to SD (wide) for your DVD using the DVD Architect templates.

    4. Once it is rendered to SD it is SD. If it is too long and the file too big, use Mark’s DVD bitrate calculator to get the best VBR settings to put into your render.

    5. I think there is a free render-for-youtube extension somewhere. Maybe vegasaur? (Mike would know.)

    6. I don’t even bother with 1280×720, I always shoot in 1920×1080 regardless of what I’m shooting.

That’s just me, John Rofrano is mush better trained at this stuff, he may have better advise.

    Good luck,

    Jeff

    Stephen,

My main computer is also a BYO, but then so is my test one. I have Vegas 11 64 bit, no 32 bit, Newblue audio essentials and equalizers, video essentials 1-4, titler, iZotope RX, Vegasaur, and some others I can’t remember. I DON’T browse with it. I also have Photoshop and AE. I carefully select updates for windows. No Office, Outlook, no Norton or Nero either. This computer has a single purpose. I always put the same brand video card as the mother board, MB related drivers are up to date, video card is (usually) updated about 2 weeks after Nvidia thinks I need one. I don’t install the Nvidia 3d drivers. And most of all – NO GAMES. I don’t think that’s too much to ask if your business depends on it. People here will spend 500 bucks on a video card, why not go to Walmart and get an Emachine for $300 that they can put all their shareware and internet junk on?

Like I have said, I am really glad not to be crashing all the time. But I am sure, that for some people it is in part about the choices they make in how they use their editing computer. Engineers who put $8000 worth of CAD software on a box probably don’t install first person shooter games alongside it.

I’m not discounting the problems Sony has been through in the moves to 64 bit and to OFX. But I am saying that people need to be practical in how they use their tools.

    Just my rant,

    Jeff

I’m not really an expert, but when it comes to RAM, more is generally better. Why we don’t see higher usage is a good question.

My guess is because Sony owns the code for “Sony AVC”. MainConcept owns the code for “MainConcept Mpeg-2”

    I could be wrong, though.
