Looking at the earlier thread about rendering speeds in VP10, VP11 and VP11 with GPU enabled, I see that for AVC the GPU is selectable or not, but MPEG-2 doesn’t have that option.
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is the omission because: a.) They haven’t got around to it
b.) GPU can’t be used when rendering to MPEG-2
c.) Someone forgot to ask them to include it
d.) It’s in the too hard basket.
    e.) Because

My guess is because Sony owns the code for “Sony AVC”. MainConcept owns the code for “MainConcept Mpeg-2”

    I could be wrong, though.

It’s probably a matter of priorities. People aren’t complaining about MPEG2 render times as much as AVCHD. I think because modern processors can handle MPEG2 just fine it’s AVCHD compression that’s killing them.

You will also get faster render times with Vegas Pro 11.0 because the timeline playback is GPU accelerated. So the processing of FX will be faster making the whole render faster even if you are just creating an MPEG2 file.
