Hi Bruce,
Are you doing the “HD2SD” script thing? I started using this method of HD to DVD conversion a few months back and am glad I did.
I find it very simple to export my HD timeline to Lagarith – just choose “Microsoft AVI” as the format, and then choose Lagarith for the codec, and use YV12 for that workflow. I’m not touching any other export settings, default all the way.
After getting my Lagarith HD file converted down to SD, I use the free HC Encoder to create the MPEG-2, excellent quality!

What is the workflow – source format, export format?
If for instance you’re exporting for the web/computer viewing, but the signal is interlaced, this would mess things up. Please share more info

Matthew is running Premiere on a Mac, whole different ball game. I’m not familiar with the Mac side of things, but on the PC, the audio only comes out of MXO2 by default, so that is a good suggestion for now, connect speakers direct to MXO2 and see what happens

Video clips should ALWAYS be on a physically separate drive away from the C: Drive – partitioning doesn’t count.
That said, in the Export window, you should have two buttons at the bottom, “Export” and “Queue”. “Export” should export directly without launching Media Encoder.

Hi Joe,
You are correct that Sony HDV 24p has pulldown added in-camera and is actually recorded to tape as 60i, so you’re using the correct edit preset at 1080 60i.
As suggested, output as Progressive, and tick a “deinterlace” button if you see one, don’t remember what CS4 offers in the output dialog. The “Maximum Render Quality” button can be helpful also, especially if scaling the video to a smaller size.
Regarding output at 640×480 – web video should always use square pixels to avoid a stretched look, so the proper sizing of “SD” output for the web from an HD source would be 854×480 with 1.0 Pixel Aspect Ratio, to maintain the correct widescreen look. Or you can use whatever dimensions you want, but keeping the 16:9 relationship between the two numbers.

You may be confusing Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) with the screen dimensions ratio. The PAR for 720p HD should be 1.0 (square pixels). And again, HD video is always 16:9, you can’t really set it to 4:3.
I ask again – what is the SOURCE video that you are starting with? Is it 4:3 SD (NTSC/PAL)? If so, you’ll probably want to edit in a Widescreen SD project, so your video will have black bars at the sides (pillar boxing) and that is unavoidable, but then the source will be 16:9 and should convert to 720p with proper widescreen look without stretching (will still have pillar boxing).

You say you are using a Vimeo HD preset, and the thing is that HD is ALWAYS Widescreen, there is no 4:3 HD format.
What is the source video? In the Export settings, what is the resolution and pixel aspect ratio?

Hi Steven,
I often use 1024×768 for editing my Camtasia training presentations at 15fps. In Premiere, just go to File > New Sequence, pick a sequence preset then click the “Settings” tab and customize the frame size, frame rate, etc. to suit your needs, then click SAVE PRESET with a new name. This will create a new preset under the Custom tab.

If a freeze frame is what you want, may I suggest you simply create one rather than messing with speed changes that bring about other issues.
Just click the “camera” icon below the Program Monitor window to create a still image of the currently displayed frame. That still image can then be imported and used in the timeline sequence. It can be dragged to any length, and effects and transitions applied without issues or workarounds needed.
