No audio out of Timeline when connected to Matrox MXO2 mini w/ MAX
Posted by Matthew Sonnenfeld on September 26, 2011 at 2:32 amHello all,
I’ve posted this on the Matrox forum as well but I was wondering if anyone else might have had experience with this…
So I just got my MXO2mini with MAX and while I’ve set up my video to run through a CRT monitor and my HDMI TV, I cannot seem to play sound out of my timeline. It works fine in the viewer for previews but not once it is in the canvas/timeline of Premiere Pro CS5.5. I have the audio output set to go through my M-AUDIO interface but still nothing on playback. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!

September 26, 2011 at 8:08 pmDid you select “use system soundcard” in the Matrox Audio playback prefs?

Where is this setting? I went through the Matrox Audio section in System Preferences and I do not see this option. I don’t think this is strictly a Premiere issue as the same thing is happening in FCP7.
Thanks!

September 27, 2011 at 2:47 amIt’s not in system Preffs, It should be in “Playback Settings” inside Premiere. On the program monitor, click the Menu arrow in the top left corner, and select Playback Settings which should be the last item in the menu, then go to the audio tab. On my computer “use system sound card” defaulted to unchecked which sent the audio out imbedded in the HDMI.

September 27, 2011 at 5:13 amOkay, so this is getting oddly complex…
When I now go to Playback Settings, it only gives me Matrox Playback which only gives me a single window asking to report dropped frames on playback.
Thanks for all your help!

September 27, 2011 at 5:48 pmI guess the MXO2 mini has less settings or the settings are in a different place? I own a MXO2 LE which I figured would be similar….
So, rather then trying to find a setting that may or may not exist, and may or may not be the problem, why don’t you try connecting the audio output from the Mini (ether the RCA plugs or the HDMI imbedded audio, or both to be thorough.) to something and check if the audio is playing back there. If it is, we can resume the search for that setting. If it isn’t, then you should probably check the Matrox forums cause I’m out of ideas at the moment.

September 28, 2011 at 1:19 pmHi John-Michael,
Matthew is running Premiere on a Mac, whole different ball game. I’m not familiar with the Mac side of things, but on the PC, the audio only comes out of MXO2 by default, so that is a good suggestion for now, connect speakers direct to MXO2 and see what happens

September 28, 2011 at 10:07 pmJohn-Michael, Thank you so much for all of your help!
Jeff and John-Michael – I’m able to get sound now but only through the HDMI cable out of my TV rendering my studio monitors useless. This is not happening in FCP7 where I can simply select to use my audio interface without any issues at all. What’s worse, while I can get sound from the HDMI cable on my TV, it only comes out of the timeline and the Program Monitor, never the Source Monitor. So this leads to think it is a Premiere issue.
But because when it rains it poors… I’m noticing that all Matrox driven players jump frames when I pause. It is especially bad when I fast forward or rewind. This does not happen to the Source Monitor if I have the Monitor Settings on Adobe Player, but as soon as I switch it to Matrox Player, it becomes every window I have – Source Monitor, Program Monitor/Timeline and my CRT and HDMI screens. Needless to say, that pretty much makes cutting something pretty difficult.
I have not seen any fram skipping in FCP.
I called Matrox today and was supposed to get a call back from Engineering – no call. I will try again tomorrow.
I really do appreciate all of your help! Thank you so much!

September 30, 2011 at 8:50 pmWell, the sound issues are exactly what would happen if “use system soundcard” was unchecked, however I can’t find any mention of it or anything like it for Mac.
