Sorry for the late response, this may be too late but you can select the layer you want to make a mask for and then go to layer/auto-trace. You can then select to make a static mask from a single frame or animated from a range of frames.

February 13, 2008 at 6:04 pm in reply to: Possible to delay some of the outputs of Multibridge Pro?The delay is a problem with the Sony Bravia, we had the same issue a year ago. I contacted Sony about the problem and they had no idea what I was talking about, but the problem is very real. Even if you just connect the TV to a cable box, the delay is still present between the image and the speakers on the the TV itself. We ended up just switching the Sony out for a Samsung.

I’ve found with 720×486 AVIs, you need to change the field order in the Encore encoder to upper-first, that’s because Encore will trim 3 pixels from the top, effectively reversing the field order of the AVI file.

Really? Aspect costs like $500, Neo can be purchased for $250. You should expect to invest something when working in HD.

December 18, 2007 at 3:33 pm in reply to: encoded mpeg2 stutters when played – any thoughtsIf you don’t have one already, try a PCIe video card with HD playback ability, that should solve your problem. It’s usually a combination of decompression and updating such a large area of the screen quickly that causes systems to drop frames. Just about any recent ATI or Nvidia card has on-board processing to handle this.
I have two identical systems, one has a very low-end gamming Nvidia GPU (about $50), and one with a Matrox Parehlia card (about $350). The system with the Nvidia can play WMV HD clips all day without ever dropping a frame, the Parehlia can’t go for more then a few seconds before dropping frames.Jeff Kosmicki

December 18, 2007 at 1:52 pm in reply to: picture shimmers during motion in finished DVDSounds like it could be a field interlacing issue. You have to be sure to encode your .m2v files with the proper field order.

If you are burning to a single-layer DVD, you should be able to use a VBR of about 4.4Mbps (target rate) for video and 192kbps for audio (Dolby Digital) and fit 2 hours. If you use a dual-layer DVD you can max out the rate to 8.3Mbps. This can be done from the Premiere timeline (at least for the single-layer DVD, not sure about the dual-layer).
Encore is not a consumer product, not even close, it is a full-featured authoring tool. A nice feature in Encore is the ability to import your AVI(s) and Encore can calculate and encode them at the highest data-rate possible to fill the DVD (wheter single or dual-layer).

I know you got it working, but if it happens again, you can try using an XML editor to open the project and try to repair it. I’ve been told that XML wrench works https://www.xmlwrench.com. I have not used it myself, but it can’t hurt to try (just do a “save as”).

I was getting serious dropped-frame issues when my 3TB RAID was getting fragmented. I bought Diskeeper Pro Premier and tried that out. It works fantastic, It runs in the background basically defragmenting as soon as a file is written to a drive, so you don’t ever need to run a defrag (of course you can turn the option off). I assumed it would cause playback problems, but it hasn’t at all. You can run a 30 day free trial to see if it works for you. http://www.diskeeper.com
