When I get some time I will try to post a short clip that is 720 @ 60fps.

I use the Windows Media Video 9 codec, for audio it’s the Windows Media Audio 10 Professional, both I believe are the default in the Media Encoder. For frame rate I use “same as source”, which is usually 60fps for 720p.

BTW, I downloaded some WMV HD movie trailers from https://www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com/ and played them through a Helios X5000 HD player to my plasma screen. The 720P clips are only 6.5Mb/s and look fantastic. A good resource for test clips.

I do use the Adobe Media Encoder, although I’ve used the Microsoft Windows Media Encoder as well, both work nicely.
For the settings, I do a single pass – variable Quality, with quality set at 90%. This will give me an average bitrate of 7 to 10Mb/s depending on the visual complexity of the source. For audio, I use the same single pass with variable quality, with the quality usually set to 75%. I don’t change any of the advanced settings, default works fine for me. I’m still using CS2, so I don’t know if there is any significant difference in CS3.
Axio hardware and codecs do help to speed up the export process, but does not effect image quality when exporting.
I haven’t found any difference with footage and rendered graphics as far as playback quality, most of my work is heavily AE comped and looks good as WMV HD.
I have found that old computers, laptop or desktop, with old GPUs can not play HD files of any format. But just about any semi-recent, gaming-level GPU card or better is designed to play HD size video and do just fine. I test my WMV files on a desktop with a $50 Nvidia card before I send them out to clients.

Pretty much every editing software package on the market claims HD workflows, but the reality is that you need somekind of hardware assist to work in HD realtime.
I use Axio HD with PPro and I’ve played 7 layers of 720p 60fps DVCPRO HD, all with some CC or effect and 2 layers of titles with no dropped frames.
While I edit in PPro or AE, I have monitoring on a Dell 24″ (1080p pixel-to-pixel), a 42″ plasma, and a downsampled SD image on a Sony PVM, so I know exactly what my video will look like in each delivery format.
Axio is not free, but it’s very reasonable and adds a lot to Production Studio. I usually export HD projects to WMV HD files at VBR averaging around 10Mb/s, and clients can play them off laptops to HD projectors with no dropped frames. On my system with the Axio hardware, I can play Axio HD clips, compressed or uncompressed, through WM player, out to any or all of my monitors (as well as on the desktop) with no dropped frames.

In Axio (any of the three versions) you can load DVCPro HD via FW from a camera or deck creating 100Mb/s AVIs (it will recognize VariCam frame rates as well as native 24pN). MXF files import right from the P2 card or off a hardrive to the bin without converting, as a .mxf clip. You can output the Premiere timeline, via FW, back to a DVCPro HD using any format on the timeline, as long as the output from Axio is compatable (basically in the preferences you tell Axio to output as 720p 60fps). Axio adds support for the formats Adobe ignores, like DVCPro 50, XDcam, IMX, and JVC ProHD.

Matrox Axio allows you to import MXF natively into Premiere (and AE), no rendering or converting.

Yeah, and that’s one of the reasons I don’t like Apple. And I certainly understand the complications inherited with several software/hardware companies working together. I guess I’m just surprised AJA and CineFrom haven’t worked on a solution where the CineForm codec works within AJA projects, but it certainly won’t prevent me from going with AJA/CineForm for building my second suite.

Yeah, I suppose, but something tells me this is not the case with Kona and ProRes. Cineform has been around for years and the only choice is to use Xena as a uncompressed-only editing solution, or reboot to a second hard drive and use Xena as a compressed/Prospect HD-only solution, each with its own set of very limited real-time plug-ins (so no sharing projects or mixing video codecs on a timeline). The second Apple announced ProRes, AJA was compatible, no dual-boot, no separate plug-ins. It seems to me AJA needs to focus on the PC side of their business a little more and make Xena more of a real-world editing solution.
