I’ve used both and Pluraleyes has more features and *maybe* an edge over FCPX in terms of syncing but FCPX works for me 99% of the time. I think I’d only jump to Pluraleyes if I needed one of the things it does that FCPX doesn’t. For me that’s primarily the ability to actually generate new clips with the sync audio attached rather than just doing it virtually like FCPX does.

The only time everything’s not going to move the way you want is if the connected clip’s actual connection is downstream of the clip you’re inserting, in which case it will stay with it’s parent and everything else will move down to make room for the inserted clip. The only way I can think of that not happening is if you were accidentally in something like position mode which overrides the normal magnetic timeline.

  • Like I said, FCPX hard codes the location of everything and is really fussy about what it considers the same file to be. The waveforms it generated and cached were associated with the clips on the external drive and I guess it just needed a kick to know where to look and/or to regenerate the waveform cache again. Even though you’ve just copied the same files to the same place they used to be, if FCPX is showing them as missing or not showing the waveform, I’d relink them – and if that didn’t fix things, I’d try deleting the render and cache files to force FCPX to recreate things again.

I think that’s not something you’re going to do without writing some code. Where does it have to run – what hardware, operating system does it need to be compatible with?

I’d persoanally probably just do it in HTML, and write a custom JavaScript player that knew when the objects occurred and was waiting for the mouse/space bar to trigger after each object appeared.

Interesting that it’s video based. Most reaction timers are 100% scripted to be random so they can test the same person more than once.

There may be better and easier apps for developing something like this but it’s been half a decade since I had to do anything interactive and I haven’t kept up with things but to me that’s probably the fastest and most universal way of achieving hat you’re after.

Yes, it’s still one of my workflows, although since then, there’s also the option of using the Worx4x app to process the XML and create the clips rather than messing around in Resolve.

  • FCXP relinking is usually ok as long the file it’s relinking to is identical to the one that’s missing. I’m not sure what was happening in your case but I’m wondering of you deleted all the render files? My first guess would be that there was something in the render cache that was referring to the external hard drive rather than the files you just reconnected.

    Just a guess though…

It works best when the frames of each clip are roughly identical but even then it’s hit and miss. Basically it’s a nice idea that doesn’t work all that well. The same feature in Color Grading Central’s new CinemaGrade plugin is more reliable – but only just.

October 28, 2018 at 2:41 am in reply to: Copy Timeline clips to Event in different Library?

    Hi Bill,

still a little lost because that’s exactly how I usually get to my reuse libraries. I edit the first project, then if I decide I need to keep titles, etc for another day, I simply create a new library, then copy and past the titles onto a timeline there for safe keeping… then I simply copy that timeline, along with the titles, etc on it, over to my new library for the next project.

How are you setting up a library reusable elements that works differently to that? I may not be helping but there’s a chance I might earn something ☺

I haven’t got any S&Q clips handy to check but do they show the actual frame rate in the Inspector? If so, you could create a smart collection that shows all clips with a frame rate that’s different to your timeline.

Reading your post, I’m not 100% sure I understand what you’ve created but I create and reuse titles all the time and do exactly what you’re trying to do – have a library of reusable elements . I’ve never had an issue simply copying and pasting anything, titles included, from a timeline in one library to a timeline in another.

I’m trying to imagine what’s different about the ones you’re creating…
