Grinder makes a copy of your original files, transcoding them to the format of your choice – usually ProRes.

Magic Bullet Grinder can add time of day as timecode, as long as you still have the .thm files available.

I’m still working out my Canon DSLR workflow but right now I’m thinking I’ll convert with Grinder (adding timecode) and then import (without copying) into FCPX.

If we’re talking OS X control panel, then I only get two output choices and both of those include HDMI. It’s currently set to HDMI + Y,YB,YR (or similar – not at the computer right now).

On the Final Cut timeline I’ve set the preview option to Black Magic 720P 50. No HDMI out.

I must be missing something somewhere…
