You can export the clip and do the animation in Motion, or in After Effects if you have it, or my present first choice these days is to send the project to Resolve once the edit is done and do all the VFX work in Fusion, then send the project back to FCPX for finishing and export.

What frame rate does the info panel report for the clips?
I haven’t shot with the Canon but I know with my Blackmagic camera, if I shoot off-speed, eg. my frame rate is 25 but I shoot 60, the camera is capturing at 60 fps but writing a 25 fps clip to the SD card, giving me slow motion. As far as FCPX knows, that is a 25 fps clip.
Assuming the C300 is doing the same thing, you may have to look for a metadata tag other than frame rate to see that it was recorded off-speed.

* missed that someone already said this…
The best way to approach using stock music is to put the music in a compound clip before you start. Edit with the compound clip, then you can just replace the contents of the compound with the non watermarked track later and job done.

From what you’re saying, what you’re wanting to do is track and corner pin the inserted video. Motion can do it or you’ll need a plugin like maybe TrackX to do it in FCPX.

December 15, 2018 at 7:08 pm in reply to: workflow for editing multiple takes of one sceneThis is one place to use auditions. Stack the takes up and switch as you play. Personally though., I tend to just drop the best take on the timeline and grab bits of other takes as needed to replace the parts I don’t like.

December 11, 2018 at 11:23 pm in reply to: How to change IN and OUT point from inside compound clip? The lines represent the edit points of the compound clip as set by dragging the ends of the compound clip from the outside. Just curious what you’d want to change that from inside the clip rather than just dragging the edit points in the timeline?
