The crop on the GH4, even with a speedbooster, would have cut off the outer edges of the image so you wouldn’t see the issue. Can’t say I’m a big fan of the full-frame look when it comes to video.
As far as Resolve goes, I’m pretty sure you need the full version to try the lens distortion fix but I haven’t used the free version in a long time so I’m a bit vague on what works and doesn’t.
It’s also possible that while it’s disabled in Resolve, it might be doable on the Fusion page.
Like I sad though, you see that lens distortion all the time in real estate shows so if all else fails, I would leave it as is and see if the client even notices.

You could theoretically go from FCPX to Logic, then from Logic to Pro Tools via an AAF but the one time I tried it, I had to do a lot of work in Logic to tidy things up that x2pro handled for me automatically. If you need to do FCPX to Pro Tools on a regular basis x2pro is worth every cent, but yes, you can get there via Logic if you want.

Sounds like you project storage options are set to manage media and store it internaly rather than externaly.

You see that effect a lot in real estate and renovation TV shows so to some extent viewers are probably getting used to it and may not actually notice the distortion. And certainly those shows don’t go out of their way to correct it.
The only thing I can think of for FCPX is maybe the Boris lens correction plugin.
Outside of FCPX, the full version of Resolve also has a lens correction option built in. Going a step higher up the food chain it might be worth taking a look at the Mocha lens module which is pretty good at resolving distortion.

Have you run the trial on that computer before now?
I haven’t run that in years but I’d contact Apple support. It may be that the trial has gone past some sort of internal use-by date and no longer runs, or maybe something about the current OS that makes it fall over. We’ve had a few OS updates since that was released.

Trashing preferences should have reset the default project and any remembered directory so I would have thought it should have fixed that particular issue.
Try creating a new user and and logging in to a fresh setup – that will at least test if it’s something wrong with the entire machine or just something corrupt for you as a user.
To reinstall Final Cut, drag the app into the trash, reboot and go back to the App Store. It will let you re-download the app.

FCPX’s auto balance is just applied as an effect so if you apply it to one clip you copy and paste attributes to all the other clips.

I’d try deleting any optimised media, and render files, etc. It could be that FCPX is forgetting where to look for its internal render files which would probably still show up as missing media.
If you’ve got the hard drive space, you might try getting everything back online then get FCPX to copy the project and media to a new location. That should update any link issues.
Another thought if you have Resolve and the project isn’t too complex, would be to export the project to that, get Resolve to relink everything, then send the project back to FCPX. That might actually be my second move after deleting all the render files.

I haven’t seen any alternative so, as far as I know, you’ll need to find someone who has FCP7 and can open the project and export the project XML. On the plus side, they shouldn’t need the media so you should be able to email the project file to whoever you find that still has a copy.

I had a quick poke around in the custom metadata view and there is an entry for off-speed frame rate.
“Video Frame Rate” is the fps rate of the clip.
“Shooting Rate” is the off-speed fps it was shot at.My Blackmagic camera is populating those entries correctly. Now if you could just search any of the metadata in a smart collection….
