  • How can I send a FCP X project to Pro Tools?

I’m working on a podcast. I like starting to organize things in FCP X cause of the metadata. I’m now sharing it with someone in Pro Tools. Right now, the projet is in FCP X but I can also open it in Logic.

I want them to be able to open it, and I want that we’re all referencing the same original audio, so even if I’ve trimmed a clip down, they aren’t importing a new audio file that has just that section but they’re opening a file that will reference the original audio (and everything I didn’t use in it.)

How can I do that? Is there any kind of file (XML, OMF or something else?) I can send someone working in Pro Tools so they open it up and have a session with the same audio I now have? As for me, I can use either Logic X, FCP X, or FCP 7 to make this. I have those three programs on my computer.

    Have you considered X2Pro (https://x2pro.net)?

Use X2Pro and select the option to reference wav files in place, and send the resulting reference AAF and all of the original audio files to the ProTools engineer.

Any other media will be embedded, though, so if your orig audio files aren’t wavs, this won’t work, and you will need to send an embedded AAF to ProTools.

I can do that….I’d just rather avoid paying 150 dollars if I can. Is there not a way way to do this from Logic?

You could theoretically go from FCPX to Logic, then from Logic to Pro Tools via an AAF but the one time I tried it, I had to do a lot of work in Logic to tidy things up that x2pro handled for me automatically. If you need to do FCPX to Pro Tools on a regular basis x2pro is worth every cent, but yes, you can get there via Logic if you want.
