Another method (with better quality)

Throw the clip into the timeline….2 seconds short. From the Timewarp category, drag the Trim to Fill to the clip. Get into trim mode. Double roller it to the length you want.

Get into Timewarp effect mode, make sure the render is Blended interpolated (or blended VTR) and render.

CMD-F Find.

Search for the name of the transition (Be aware, if it’s cross dissolve, it’s going to select good ones too.)

Find all. Press Delete.

All DVDs are 720×480 – you can get that in Widescreen if you like; but you cannot have 1920×1080 on a DVD.

You can get that with Blu-Ray; you’ll need a Blu Ray burner and player; and you’ll want to make sure that the discs you burn actually work (Recordables are about 70%.)

Best is a relative term. ProRes ought to work, given a decent speed drive. You can test it with drive tools from AJA or black magic. This bears the question of why does it play for your (without lag) in FCP but not as a QuickTime file; QuickTime is the engine of FCP7.

h.264 is a fine choice, I’d suggest the Youtube preset and jack up the datarate to around 20,000 (the preset I think is 8k with fcp7/comp 3.5)

Last, test one minute rather than waiting for the whole piece to compress.

Try right clicking and setting the Playback quality to less than Full resolution (with DPX, I’d do 1/4 or less if you can.) That plus fast drives (for playback delivery). Keep the Paused Resolution at full.

The speed of modern systems should provide acceptable real time performance without conversion. When you go to output, it’ll upsample as needed.

Download Perian first and see if it allows QuickTime to see the WMV files. After that, you should try Flip4Mac.

If QuickTime can see the wmv files, Premiere Pro can edit it.

Export self contained h.264 from FCP
H.264 into Streamclip export as ProRes
ProRes to compressor (90 Minute Best Settings) with de-interlace, two pass VBR, Best Resize.”

As Craig points out, too much transcoding = disasster.

Your workflow should be:
Send to Compressor (or export your timeline native codec, which should be ProRes.
Use Compressor to Make the DVD. Don’t you deinterlace, let compressor do it for you and never use the filter; only the geometry pane. 90 Min best settings…2pass, VBR

Experiment with one minute and you’ll have an idea of the amount of time necessary for your work.

Ok, so you need to create a new QuickTime preset (type mov)
On the encoder tab, there’s a settings button – pick the h.264 codec
QuickTime is a transport stream
Bit rate is 1900kbs
Frame rate 25, res 720×576 (and make sure compressors geometry tab matches)

…and I’m not sure you can Mpeg Layer 2 audio. Perhaps they mean AAC?

Can they give you a previously encoded movie to their specification?
