    Hey friends,

I need to import a .wmv clip to work with in premiere. I thought the format was natively supported but it doesn’t accept the file. I tried to convert to something usable with Mpeg streamclip, adobe Media encoder, and plain old quick time seven. The only thing that even plays the clip is VLC and i can’t convert it through that.

there are a ton of .wmv converters available for download but I’ve heard some horror stories about those (virus, malware, general badness) Any suggestions on a good and safe converter?

    Many thanks!

Was Mpeg streamclip, adobe Media encoder able to read the file?

I’m on a mac, and the only thing that could open and play the file was VLC

Download Perian first and see if it allows QuickTime to see the WMV files. After that, you should try Flip4Mac.

If QuickTime can see the wmv files, Premiere Pro can edit it.
