April 11, 2012 at 7:24 pmWhat tools do you have?
What editorial software do you use?(And you know, all you’re doing is blowing it up, right? Yes, the method can make a difference, but it will always be soft)

April 12, 2012 at 7:41 amI use FCP7. Have no hardware.
Tried the trial of Red Giant Instant HD yesterday, and I actually thought that compressor did a nicer job. Maybe I was doing it wrong?
I have also heard of avisynth, some real hardcore programming thing. Would this be worth my time learning?
Thanks!

April 12, 2012 at 12:45 pmIf you like the job compressor did, mission accomplished. Make sure you’re viewing on a broadcast monitor and not just in FCP – in FCP you want to be looking at 100% (and preferably outputting on a broadcast monitor.)
You really can’t judge compressor vs. RedGiant (or anyone else) scaled up…and then scaled back down again for playback in FCP.
Oh, your budget has the ability to use hardware? Forget all this software stuff. Snell and Wilcox converter or a Teranex.
