If you’re using the DVCProHD 720 preset, it’s actually 960×720 and will look closer to 4:3.

It sounds like the switch “Correct for Aspect Ratio” isn’t on.

It sounds like the drive is going bad unfortunately. SimilarlyI’ve seen a number of drives that read/write CDs but not DVDs.

How’s paragon’s overall performance? I’ve tried macfuse – and it’s a bit slow…or you go for the NTFS beta and it’s dicey.

Dicey.

The issue is that you’d want to change the internal name in FCP and leave the source alone. Tough; I’d test it with the XML and a decent text grep search/replace. Easier to do it at the finder level and reimport from scratch.

If you’re doing a film out? There are no standards. Film is commonly 1.85 or 2.35 to 1…but it’s also been 4:3, 3:1 and a bunch of other things.

If you’re doing this from a video projector, you’ll have to mask it to give the illusion of such. The widescreen filter is just a mask anyways. It’ll be ‘projecting’ black, but should look decent – why not go test it?

Move all your media offline. Start FCP. Reconnect.

If the problem exists when all of it is offline – something is wrong with FCP/Your User/your system. This will rule out your media.

Are you meaning clips inside of FCP? or the files that FCP is managing.
If it’s the files outside of FCP, I love name mangler.

If it’s the files inside – I’d have to think about that. Yes, there might be an XML way.

Yes, you can do this, but it’ll take a couple of steps.
We have to find it; copy it; then relink it.

Finding it
In your Browser, right click on any column other than the name column, and show SOURCE.

Now you know the name of the drive (or even the FOLDER) that your music came from.

With NOTHING selected in FCP, Edit>Find
In this project, search for all media, and Any Column (or change it to source) contains the name of the drive/folder.
FIND ALL.

You’ll now have a ‘psuedo’ bin containing everything from that specific place.
Optional – you could copy these into their own bin at this point – if you drag them into a bin, they’ll no longer be located in their original bin. If you want to copy them, make sure you hold down the OPT key while dragging them.

Copy
With these clips selected, File> Media Manager
Choose Copy, don’t delete anything, based on existing names, don’t create a project
I’d argue you should target the Media folder it’s about to create with the rest of the imported items from that project.

Relink
While you’ve identified these files (step 1), copied these files (step 2), you haven’t linked the clips to them.
Select all the clips, Make offline (leave files on disk)
Then select them, relink and “LOCATE” the new media folder.

Whew.

One note – remember to collapse the multiclip when you’re finished the multicam switching; fcp will have much better performance (and you can always uncollapse later)
