You’l have to go back to the original sequence and export with the “Reference” UNSELECTED – creating a ‘self contained’ QuickTime movie, no longer referencing your work in FCP.

If you still have the 1080i footage, you take the sequence, choose the media manager, “Make Offline” of the sequence type you want (1080i flavored in your codec of origin) and then relink the sequence to your HD footage.

HDV tends to have very squirelly timecode due to the long gop pattern. Can you just capture the whole tape and go from there?

I have a couple of thoughts/guesses/questions.

First, is there a deck attached?
What about USB items?
Have you tried a new user?
Are you running other apps?
What matrox item is attached to your system?
Have you tried a clean install of the OS (I have a way to do this that is easy/fast and non destructive to your existing system.)

Copy, replace, then paste attributes – just the attributes you want to keep.

You’re copying the original information, replacing the clip (or overwrite), then you’re pasting the attributes from the original clip.

A reference file REFERENCES your existing media (plus a mixdown of the audio – that second file.)

If you want to move your footage, export it the same way, but uncheck the reference movie choice. It’ll be a big file, but will work anywhere that the codecs exist.

It sounds like a mismatch between your timeline and your raw (video) clip.

I can’t recall if it was FCP 5 or 6 where FCP would automatically ‘switch’ the timeline to match the footage on the VERY FIRST clip to hit the timeline. Try this method first:
Create a new timeline (nothing special), drop a video clip into it…and it should offer to switch the timeline to match.

If not? We need the timeline and the video clips to match
Hit CMD-Shift-N; and FCP will give you every type of timeline you can create.
I’ll assume it’s a HDV 1080i 29.97 (Pick that.) If you drop footage in it, it should just ‘work’ if it was matched correctly.

I’m unclear. Time machine can only backup your main drive/partition.

It sounds like you were booting from an external drive, using time machine and the external drive (boot) failed?
To restore a time machine backup, you install the OS and then you have a choice to restore from Time machine.

Let’s check if your avid sees them at all!

Open the Media Tool, all drives, Master clips, all projects and see if the media is in there.
