EZ as well with Partficle Flow in MAX,….but in AE?…..Hmmm….maybe a particular layer to break up the object and turn it nito particles that form a stream,….and some sort of transition to a similar particle stream that ‘collects’ to another object (almost same flow as first layer, but in reverse)……

    Just an idea though…..

  • WHY do you not want to do this in MAX?

Doing this in MAX is the most efficient, best way to do it. Why MUST you do it in AE?

You could also easily setup your BG in MAX,….turn it off,…render the statue move. Then turn off your statue and render your BG move. Then comp them together in AE so you could apply effects and such to just the statue or jsut the bg.

As for doing the whole BG in AE and camera matching the 3D????? It would be very, very, very difficult and time consuming. Especially due to the fact your camera makes a full 360 around the statue..etc..etc…

    Answer: Do it in MAX.

Or if you are referring to the Psyop style (and immitated everywhere) flat, vectory ink splats that drip…..Illustrator is king. A few main splats,….on some seperate layers some drips….then take into AE as a composition and animate drip layers…. A bit tedious,….but it does give ‘that’ look. As said, alot of the ‘real’ stuff is ink shot on white and used as a matte…..

he he….I beat my head against a wall on this one about 2 months ago……took awhile to get out of the Line preset mentality…..

btw – If you are in a real bind,…..email me at jd@gfxmooo.com and I will send you the AE file I just whipped up,….it is for 6.5 Pro.

This effect is very simply, and does not need the Lines preset at all.

    Simply create a particular layer….

    1) set particle life to 4 sec (adjust to suit once done)
    2) Choose glow sphere as part. type, 0 feather, size to 1, uniform direction
    3) Size over life set to diagnol upper left to lower right linear line preset
    4) Opacity over life set to quick lower left to upper mid to lower right pseude-pyramid preset
    5) Set Physics time factor to 2.5 (adjust to suit once done)
    6) ‘Velocity’ AND ‘Velocity Random’ AND ‘Velocity from motion’ set to 0

    NO aux particles.
    All other settings default.
    ALL random settings to 0%

NOW simply animate emmiter (or track it) and nice flowing line will follow in beautiful fashion…..

btw – THere where 2 line effects in that spot,…….I am assuming you meant the second effect?? If I am wrong…uh, nevermind.

I agree with what Jean said entirely,…and will add a bit….

Realize and understand that it takes alot more than ‘art skills’ to do mograph….especially if you are in a small market without support staff. Knowledge of NLE’s, digital video specs, MAC/PC computer platforms, and various other areas all interplay to create the finished product. Knowing how to get your idea ‘moving’ is step 1, making it move is step 2, understanding title safe/pixel aspect ratio/drop vs non-drop frame video/tape formats/output devices..etc..etc are step 3.

It is a field dominated by those with both right and left brain strengths, to get the most from AE, technical approaches will be needed to solve design problems,….expressions/understanding effect parameters to get the most from them all are part of sitting down to produce your piece.

Just a few cents,………the best of luck!! Oh,…and remember…it will take ALOT of time. ALOT.

Back to the orginal question (and yes, I also agree asking for aep’s is a tall order 😉

Joost Korngold (Renescent) did that animation entirely in 3D Studio MAX using Particleflow, Reactor, shatter and a few other tools. AE was only used for CC and editing……

If you study his work you can re-create alot of it in AE, however her prefers to do as much as possible entirely ‘in-camera’ so to speak (meaning in the 3D app render).

Hmmmm……..I have never used DV footage with AE. But I can say without a doubt that Dbeta footage, taken in via SDI, processed or not, rendered out, sent back to Dbeta via SDI has has no such artifacts. Come to think of it, neither does BetaSP taken in via component…….

A ‘guess’ would be that DV footage is compressed from the get-go (in a sense) and that re-rendering to the DV codec ‘may’ do something????
