Cinema Tools thinks the frame rate is 29.97, but I told it to conform to 29.97 anyway and reimported into FCP and voila! that worked!
    Thanks John Pale!
Does that make it a QT issue?

I don’t think you can mix and match on the same OS. You could install FCP 5 on separate drive with it’s on copy of the OS and boot from it, then reboot to your other drive to work in FCS 2.
    To remove FCS 2
search Apple’s support site for the following articles and CAREFULLY follow the instructions for removing receipts and other items:

BTW. Why are you wanting to do this?

I like 1080_30p for display purposes. Projectors and screens handle it better, things look sharper than adding pulldown to 24p or deinterlacing 1080i. 30p is easy to display in the edit suite on my trusty CRT, but not 24p for us yet anyway.
My animator likes it better than 24p. It makes his work look smoother.
My shooter likes 24p. He wants that film magic feel.
    I like blue.

  • I’m sitting at a new 8-core.
Issues? Yes. Unusual or attributed to the 8-core, I don’t know. I’ve had several issues with compressor and final cut not seeming to talk to each other, aborting exports using, compressed files that never appear, markers that don’t show up, MPEG files that stop in the middle of playing inside DVDSP, trashed files that can’t be moved out of the trash –pretty buggy really. Is this FCS2, QT, 8-core or Apple? You guess. Some help from Apple, but no fixes. I’ve seen a lot similar on the forums. They’ve already released a firmware update, but like all their upgrades I’m nervous about applying until I get wind of it’s effect from other more daring adventurers.

Renders are much faster in FCP. Using Cluster to Compress is dreamy fast. Changes the workflow. 2 hour shows aren’t an overnight render anymore.

Check your power availability. The 8-core has a 12 amp supply. We had to buy a bigger UPS that set us back nearly another $1,000.

    Storage?
I’m scratchin on that one. We’ve had xRAID for 3.5 yrs and haven’t had good luck with it, although rumor is that it’s very reliable. The newer xRAIDs are a tad faster, but haven’t really changed their technology. Dulce sounds promising to us for a single station (speed and value) as well as studio network solutions for multiple stations.

Total shot in the dark, but did you re-install the Kona drivers last?

[David Roth Weiss] “check the “Markers” box and select “all markers.” That should export a file with all of your markers.

Doesn’t work. Hands Compressor a file with no markers

With regard to needing to be rendered and not playing natively in FCP:
Your RED file was rendered in the Animation codec.
Your timeline is in the 10bit Uncompressed codec.
Generally, different codecs require rendering, but I just started using FCP 6 and don’t know if it can actually play in the timeline in realtime the animation codec in the same timeline it’s playing the 10bit uncompressed. The animation codec has an alpha. 10bit Uncompressed has no provisions for an alpha channel.

September 12, 2007 at 8:06 pm in reply to: vertical line artifact on SD 8 bit footage

I almost never work in 8-bit. Maybe once this year. I’ve had several documented artifacts in 10bit, most noticeably in white over white and Broadcast safe filter.

I don’t think I would’ve noticed had you not pointed it out. Sometimes I don’t see it until I’ve rendered.

In my 8bit timeline, I don’t see the lines on my re-imported black slug until I put a generated black on top of it in track V2, and then only some of the generators show it.
In my 10bit timeline, I don’t see the lines on my re-imported clip until I render the clip (with no generators above it).

Yes. I see the lines on the right side of the screen. I used a slug and exported it, then re-imported it back into the timeline. However, I do have mixed results:
When the 8bit Text generator is placed over the original slug, there are no artifact lines.
When the 8bit Text generator is placed over the 8bit re-imported slug there are artifact lines.
I have the same result with Title 3D, but
    -not Matte Color Solid and
-not BCC4 Mixed Colors (turn brightness down all the way).

The lines are about 8 IRE (flat) on an external scope and not far from that on FCP’s internal scope.

I had similar results in a 10bit timeline as well. Sometimes in both it looked fine until it was rendered.
