Not using it, but have begun the process of setting up the program. It does more than manage tapes, but it will of course do only that if you wish. Not too robust, but has a library, lots of sort fields, bar coding, etc., and made for both Mac and PC and networkable (if you want to go that route–which we are).
It’s all built on a Filemaker database.Love,

I don’t do 24pa so this is a long shot:
Are you getting the message that dropped frames were detected on the last capture? If so, that sounds like a storage drive problem. (If the storage drive isn’t able to keep to speed then you’ll get this dropped frames warning when there are no dropped frames on the tape and you’ll get multiple clips, though usually not at the EXACT same place.)
If this is the case you could try capturing to a (different?) internal drive or a different external and see if it goes away.
If it’s some other error message dealing with pa drop frame, then I’m talking about something completely different and you can ignore me.

I really miss this feature and have been hoping we all go tapeless so that I can get over it. But I’m not over it and I’m not tapeless.
Preach it!

I don’t think that is quite right Gary.
The fields are not the same, but they are captured in the sensor at the same TIME. The buffer then records field 1 to the tape, then field 2 to the tape, thus recording a progressive frame onto an interlaced format. The image is progressive, but the recording is interlaced. If the fields were the same, then you’d only have half the resolution. HDCam works the same way.My workflow in HDCam is to choose the Easy Setup of the interlaced format. Create a new sequence, then adjust the sequence settings for field dominance to “None”. Right click in the browser column “Field Dominance” for your captured clip(s) and select “None”. (BTW you can select all your clips first then right-click “None” to make it faster). Now you should be able to edit without any render bars (play the clip in the timeline natively).
Let us know what’s working for you.

Well, reinstalling Compressor and Motion and then doing the updates worked to fix that no presets problem.
It took about 2.5 hours and 8 of the install discs.
Funny thing is that after I trashed all the Compressor and Motion files, the FCS2 Installer had checked all the programs on for reinstall and all but Motion was greyed out (couldn’t turn on or off), but only Compressor, QMaster and Motion had a file size associated with them. Nonetheless, when all was done, Software Update indicated that Final Cut Pro required the update to 6.0.1. Well, it already was at 6.0.1. which makes me think the installer installed 6.0 overtop of 6.0.1 and that could spell trouble–we’ll see.BTW. I didn’t have snapping guides (or any guides) before. I thought that was a related issue, but turns out (after reading the release notes–rarity) that this is a known issue and I need to hit the “n” key twice. Except I found that I really only needed to hit it once.

He’s tried that, but on his Vista machine it doesn’t seem to want to load it (even after five tries). Apparently the Raylight thing isn’t made for Vista.
I spoke with him today and he’s going to call their tech support again and see if progress could be made anyway.

Can’t override the frame rate in the FCP Browser.
