Getting There from Here: Smooshing DVCProHD Source to PC?
My client has 100 minutes of DVCProHD tapes (his son shot) that he wants to edit on his PC. I think he’s using Premiere or Vegas. (BTW he has a Sony HDV camcorder also).
How can I get there from here since there isn’t a DVCProHD codec built-in to Quicktime for Windows?
There’s that FairlightDV decoder thing, but that was going to set him back another $200-$300 smackers (and for a guy editing on a PC, I couldn’t convince him (yet) that was the way to go).
Sheer codec seems potentially cross-platform, but it seems they are in the beta test stage. (I couldn’t convince myself that was a safe way to go.)
What other codecs could I digitize in that would play natively on a Windows with minimal quality loss?

AJA sells the Xena board for Windows that works with Adobe Premiere. You can work with DVCPro HD footage with that card.

He doesn’t have a Xena board either.”Well, he can consider purchasing one. If you’re looking to maintain the DVCPro HD quality across the platforms, that would be the easiest way to do it.
Animation (Lossless) is the only codec I work with cross platform, but that’s only for short pieces and clips.

DVFilm has the Raylight DVCProHD codec for Quicktime Windows that can play back and also encode DVCProHD and DVCPro50 Quicktimes.

Thanks. (That’s what I meant above when I said Fairlight)
He’s tried that, but on his Vista machine it doesn’t seem to want to load it (even after five tries). Apparently the Raylight thing isn’t made for Vista.
I spoke with him today and he’s going to call their tech support again and see if progress could be made anyway.

There’s a DirectX component which will not work with Vista but the other components (the quicktime codec) which should, and it will still be usable, although you will not get fullscreen real-time playback in HD. I would try the installer for the Encoder product as a test.
