  • No video playback over Kona, but still frame will show

Posted by Ken Nemetchek on September 24, 2007 at 4:44 pm

Hello all and thanks for the help in advance.

I’m running a Kona 3 out of FCP into a Pany monitor via analog video out (on the AJA Breakout Box).

FCP will show me still frames (shift-F12), but refuses to show me motion video (command-F12). Audio output via the Kona 3 is working.

I’ve trashed the prefs but it doesn’t help. I’ve tried turning off “Mirror on desktop” but no difference.

The project is 720p (29.97). The Kona Analog Video Output is set to 720p59.94. In FCP, the Playback Output is set to AJA Kona 720p59.94 8 Bit (1280 x 720).

Audio is coming out of the Kona, but just no motion video.

It’s gotta be something simple, but I can’t figure it out. Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

What type of footage are you trying to view? That is a major thing to know. Different footage requires different playback options.

    Hey Shane.

I shoot most of my footage at 720p/60 and some at 720p/30PN. This timeline is mostly 60, although the sequence is 29.97.

It is all shot with the HVX200.

This is a recent problem. Typically everything works fine but I did a full reinstall of FCP to get rid of some flakieness (saddly, that problem still exists). Since the reinstall I’ve had this problem.

    Suggestions?

I am not in front of FCP right now (Avid…ahhh!)…but isn’t there a 720p 29.97 View option? If not…then tell me to shut up. Cause there might not be…it being a 59.94 codec.

    Just thinking…

Yeah, I’m racking my brain too.

The codecs are 8 bit, 10 bit, and RGBA in both 720p59.94 and 720p60. I’ve tried both of the 8 bit options, which is what I successfully used in the past.

I wouldn’t think that it’s a codec thing, considering that the shift-F12 will show the still frame, but command -F12 turns the screen black and won’t show a thing.

    ARG.

Total shot in the dark, but did you re-install the Kona drivers last?

Didn’t even think of that. I’ll try it and let you know what happens.

I reinstalled the Kona drivers and the problem is solved.

    Thanks very much Shane.

Thanks to COUNTDOWN for the help (but Shane’s cool too). I need to pay more attention to who’s talking to me I guess.
