Do a field-motion test (through to final output format) when you decide on your workflow. 486 -> 480 or vice-versa can reverse fields, depending on how your software interprets what field order really means… Or worse, some software will “fit” 486 into 480 high, completely trashing the field separation.
i.e., learn from *my* mistakes!

I’d consider the possibility that the monitors and ambient lighting are different in the 2 suites. I’ve been in “online” suites where the monitors did not have a correct black level. Just something to check, if you haven’t already.

When I bought my PVW (about 14 years ago!), I was paying more per month in rentals than the financing would cost, so it was cheaper to buy. I’d suggest doing that math, if you haven’t yet. You should be able to find a deal on a used one, though. Add on about $2-3K for new heads and an overhaul, just in case.
I understand your situation: if your clients are using BetaSP, then you need to use BetaSP! So, having a deck in the rack can be worth $$$.
BTW, I almost always deliver QTime files on DVD-ROM as output now, even to my “BetaSP” clients. Once they see the lack of (tape)noise, they are happy to wait a few minutes to do an import on their end. I either use a native (for them) codec, like AVID Meridian, or a photo-JPEG QTime set at about 95% quality. As a *very* rough comparison, BetaSP would be more like photoJPEG at 50-60% quality.

Looks like we’re tracking the same issues!
I can’t comment on the SDI jitter, but for what it’s worth…I have noticed a lot of jitter in the subcarrier on the analog output of my DL Extreme. I lay to tape (BetaSP) via a 3rd-party SDI->analog converter.

Well, if you were an editor you’d be p*ssd that someone gave you a tape w/ timecode breaks!
Does the Toaster really ignore TC breaks? That would be handy… I too have clients that sometimes forget the purpose of TC and batch capture…

AFAIK, none of the BM codecs support an alpha channel.

Yah, they added the proc amp after the first couple of software releases, and corresponding compliants about analog levels. The standard line has always been that “unlike digital signals, analog levels vary…” . Which is true, but I’ve used 4 other analog capture systems over the last 8 years, and never had to calibrate the hardware to get unity gain. But I did have to with my DL Extreme. I agree: there should be setup notes about that.

Well, as CG is output as a series of sequential stills (even if packaged as QTime), there is no real “framerate” to it. Just tell the editing app it is 29.97 when you import it, all should be well.
