I ended up using ‘voltaic’ software – it works (slowly) but it works,, And there were these responses on the apple forum:

If anyone has a better workflow to get video (1080p or other) from the panasonic hdc-tm700p into FCP, please let me know

1. every time I read in my project (also, when I go to compressor it does it)

2. the ‘always reconnect externally modified files’ option was already checked.

Actually I just learned how to acquire the HDV footage through firewire. You have to change FCP capture settings then it works just like any miniDV camcorder. (the video is compressed but it looks pretty good to me).

So I can use compressor to turn 720p into 1080i? Is it pretty straight forward?

by resize and re-render do you mean I’d have to scale it up in the FCP?

I want to shoot in 1080i because I got a new cannon hv10 (helmet cam) that is more portable and it only shoots in 1080i so it looks like at least half the footage will be 1080i anyway.
