[Oliver Peters] “From Apple:
This is the issue with duplicated sequences I’d posted before.
Sincerely,
Oliver”Im interested in what Apple says, but I cant see anything after your words “From Apple:” Is there a link ? Or a document regarding this issue?
Thanks much

July 29, 2007 at 7:22 am in reply to: Plans for FCP2 Suite Use Cancelled Pending Software FixesFor me…
In normal work flow I do save off SEQ’s periodically and continue forth by continuing to edit from the SEQ I copied FROM, I never copy then start working on the copy. But to the best my memory the issue seems to happen mostly when re-opening FCP, and occasionally FCP 6.01 crashes to finder, no dialogue box, and upon reopening the render files are there sometimes and gone others, no pattern yet.Im interested in what you are thinking… Is is possibly “confusing” FCP to duplicate SEQ’s? In my case the SEQ are never left open they are tucked away in an “In=progres” Bin…
Cheers!

FCP 6.01
Dual 2GHZ G5
Tons of successful editing under 5.x never lost render files like this! This is certainly a FCP 6.0 / 6.01 issue!! Not an isolated event to one piece of hardware or software as can be demonstrated by the posting “FCP 6 Losing Render Files”
https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/947529
I am right dab in the middle of it. At first I thought I was having corrupt media drives, a hardware malfunction… until saw this in the forum.
What happens is:
One finishes a sequence, renders it, plays it back, edits, closes, reopens and bang—-0 they are all gone. All media drives are still present, all media is still present just no render files.
I have also had instances where everything appears rendered via the solid blue line at the top and is actually not. When you try to play it back it drops frames… and at some point, not sure what, how or why, but the timeline updates and shows orange and green unrendered bars again…
Almost like there is something on writing the project on closing FCP that doesnt quite save it properly.
Hope it gets fixed soon…. Sucks to have to explain this to clients.
Cheers!

FCP 6.01
MAC OS 10.4.10
Dual 2GHz G5I gotta agree with both of you on the “platform war” no need to go there.
BUUUUTTTTT, since I am still here into Sunday morning now re-rendering 2 shows for the third time…
I gotta side a bit with CC on this even if he comes from an AVID-centric POV, there is good reason to… it is a really strong product, and, I must agree with his head scratching as to why these simple features weren’t included in 5 and definitely why they weren’t found in 6!
6 should really be called 5.5
I love FCP, Been with it since v3 – I have cut several TV shows, commercials, industrials, music videos all with their own unique delivery requirements and it is certainly impressive that FCP does what it does given its age relative to AVID.
Being QT based certainly has its advantages, I’ll take FCP over AVID any day when it comes to Import/Export! But I will take AVID over FCP any day with its robust media database architecture.
I miss:
An elegant interface for ingesting tapes – demanding immediate action to enter a new reel name
Custom Sift
Timeline-based “on the clip” information such as souce, durations etc.
Timecode window
Markers while ingesting
Subclipiing while ingesting
Built in TC Calc
to name a few…And wonder:
Why are sub-clips really not subclips
Match Frame to master clip – don’t stop at the subclip
Find Frame featureAVID consolidate, decompose is beautiful! Media Mangler is not.
So if this forum is read and relied on by Apple, would it make sense to establish a Forum for Development/Wishlist? Call it Apple Final Cut Pro Wishlist where such discussions could be had?
For most projects FCP is still my choice and can’t wait to see what the latest OS & version of FCP brings…
but until then I digress back to the issue at hand – these damn missing render files…………. did someone borrow them? I demand they return them now or else 🙂 I write this as I once again am rendering, my timelines….
Right now I have nothing nice to say about FCP 6.0 or 6.01 ! IT CONTINUES TO LOSE MY F@$%!$%^^ RENDER FILES!
I have now rendered 2 TV shows about 3 times each!
I suggest exporting video only QT’s until the issue is resolved. Its a real pisser and a time waster – its not like you can charge clients for this time, and you cant charge Apple for the hours… so I guess I’ll stick to a long response on Creative Cow tonight, once again proving to myself I need a social life… 🙂
Cheers!

Just had this happen on an OMF I delivered to audio post, we found that an error occured while the OMF was being imported into Protools because in FCP there were instances of disabled audio in the sequence. Epecially suspect were instances of disabled audio with a cross fade attached. We remedied the problem by deleting the disabled audio.
We didnt have time to try lots of things so I did not try simply deleting cross fades attached to disabled audio – which may also work if you want to include options for your audio session.
Also, if you have instances of disabled audio in your sequence that you want to keep in for options in audio post you may want to try Automatic Duck’s Pro Export.
Hope this helps

They must be announcing a new certification level this year…

If you have any video media in the motion project you may need to make sure that it’s dominance is correctly set, much like you would in After Effects interpret footage window. I have inported backgrounds that come in with the field dominance set to none instead of upper or lower resulting in jerky video. Also have you tried turning on field rendering ?

Depending on the overall asthetic of the doc, a simple solution may be to use a camera and shoot computer monitor and make sure to capture the audio cleanly. Personally, this allows for more creativity and allows you to quickly and easily conform to NTSC.
hope this helps

Well it appears that it has something to do with clip name length, Eventhough I find that nowhere in the manual.
