Well, after much experimentation (it’s 3:30am!) I found that I could circumvent the issue by copying the shape of the brush stroke and applying it to a mask…then copying the mask shape to the position property…it seems like I did it easier last time though.

New question, if anyone is listening at all!

When I try to match the movement of a paint stroke from one layer…I’m trying to mimic the *leave behind* of the chalk on the board when it is wiped off. So I am trying to do a blurry white brush stroke…same path. But when I apply it, the timing is off…still just 2 keyframes at the exact place in timeline…but the brushes go out of sync in the middle of the stroke. Why?

    Hey Dave,

Great suggestion…I always love your workarounds. Good call.

July 19, 2007 at 4:04 pm in reply to: Best way to build *simple* 3D stage

    Steve,

I’m clear on how to do exactly what you described…I really didn’t think of the fact that it “doesn’t matter” if they are exact. Sometimes I tend to build things very analitically (sp?)…by doing the math first and then building with specific parameters…instead of just making it look good.

It doesn’t seem like it is too much of a stretch for Adobe to put in the ability to hold in ctl and snap to the corner of a layer’s bounding box with the pan behind tool…it already recognizes the shift key to keep the anchor point in horizontal and vertical constraint.

    Thanks for your help!

My thought is to create a wall with text on it, duplicate it…then place it intersecting with the other wall at the desired point where the text breaks.

If your looking for the *correct deformation* what I think you are saying is that a wall not at a perpendicular angle to a projector will *stretch* the image…you could achieve this by simply scaling disproportionatelly (sp?) the text size and defocusing it on the wall closest to the camera.

So you’re suggesting just go to front view, zoom in, and get it as close as I can?

Do you have the preserve resolution of nested comps box checked in the advanced tab of Composition Settings?

    That’s burned me before.

Sounds like a file naming issue…how PC works (I don’t know about MAC) is:

    0001 comes before 01

I’ve found that if my highest numbered file is a 5 digit filename, I need to start with 00001.

The way to *fix* this is to use a utility…I downloaded and used this freeware for my PC…I don’t know if it will work on a MAC.

    https://www.snapfiles.com/get/bulkrename.html

It will allow you to *insert* characters into a file name.

Thank you…that was great information, you proved me wrong…considering that we do field rendering, then stretching vertically is the least appropriate option. I read Rick’s “Dr. Strangepixel” a long time ago…it may be time for a refresher course in pixels!

***ohh why can’t we work in square pixels***

Thanks alot…and BTW, my co-worker wasn’t “yelling at me”…I exaggerated for dramatical effect.

March 4, 2007 at 3:39 am in reply to: Rendering to AVID DV Codec…problem

    Thanks Erik,

I have tried a lot of *trial and error*. I haven’t tried the “high” rather than “best” idea…but I’ll try that now. I was under the impression that the quality slider doesn’t matter. In the *options* button where you select 2:1 , DV25, DV50…etc. I’ve been told that that setting overrides the high, good, best quality slider.

I’m trying to figure it out…because I really like the “quick import” that AVID does…and the smaller file size it creates vs. the Animation codec!

While we’re on the subject…Let me ask you this…

When you have footage exported from AVID (with fields…lower first). Do you interpret the footage in AFX as lower field first, then render out with that setting? Or do you not seperate fields and then render out as progressive? It seems that AFX does a good job removing the interlacing…but I’ve always wondered that if you have footage at full screen that is interlaced and you scale it down, then that interlacing is smaller than the final rendered fields…and it wouldn’t look right. Right?

    Do you have any ideas?

February 17, 2007 at 2:23 am in reply to: Super Bowl ads — Bad audio???

Thanks for checking…I’ve done a bit of research, and found that it seems to only have been a problem in the High-def signal (from national CBS, not local). But there’s no way to verify…considering you can’t record HD.

It still seems like this is a HUGE story, considering I know several people in our local market (Indianapolis) that went out and specifically bought HD sets for the *big game*.

I’m just curious if CBS had to make huge refunds or “make-goods” for the national advertisers, considering half of their spots didn’t have correct audio.

P.S. I know it’s a week late…but I’ve been out of the country on vacation.
