I created a Text layer that I erase with the paint effect (AE 7.0) using the eraser tool. Everything worked OK, I then created a layer, a solid that was sized like an eraser and wanted it to follow the exact same path as the stroke set by the eraser. I went to the keyframes set under the *end* property of the eraser parameter, and copied them…then pasted them onto the position property of the solid layer, worked perfectly. Did exactly what I wanted it to do.

But then, I tried to do it again just moments later, and now I can’t re-create what I did…it tells me that it can’t paste temporal keyframes onto a spatial property, which I understand…but from what I remember, I had just done it!

Any ideas as to what I am missing? I’m sure it’s simple…I can’t paste the path from the paint layer to the position property, and it definitely wasn’t parenting…I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

    Any help?

Well, after much experimentation (it’s 3:30am!) I found that I could circumvent the issue by copying the shape of the brush stroke and applying it to a mask…then copying the mask shape to the position property…it seems like I did it easier last time though.

New question, if anyone is listening at all!

When I try to match the movement of a paint stroke from one layer…I’m trying to mimic the *leave behind* of the chalk on the board when it is wiped off. So I am trying to do a blurry white brush stroke…same path. But when I apply it, the timing is off…still just 2 keyframes at the exact place in timeline…but the brushes go out of sync in the middle of the stroke. Why?
