I was looking @ some JBL digital input speakers…they allow for expanded setup, at the point when we may start doing surround, etc.

But right now…I’ll be monitoring via headphones.

Question is, best way to mix digital out from Mac Pro & digital out via MXO2.

Is there a mixer than can input -> toslink (optical) and AES/EBU (coaxial)?

I’m currently shooting HDV on a Canon XL-H1 and I read (and am experiencing problems with) something about the HDV capture to ProRes not carrying correct TimeCode over with it?

I’ve been experiencing a bunch of problems with the HDV – FinalCut workflow. I’m sure most of it is user error, I’m just very new to Final Cut…I have a long background in AVID…

My bad…I just figured it out!!!!

Just having MPEG2 assets doesn’t play back motion menus. You actually HAVE to go in and File->Render->Motion Menus

    Thanks so much!!!!

    It’s native MPEG2…doesn’t need rendered.

September 15, 2009 at 2:59 pm in reply to: DVD Studio Pro vs. Encore – Taking Poll

Well..Blu-ray is a feature I plan to be using in the next 6 months if we continue to move the way we’re headed.

I own both…have the need to work on both because sometimes I’m tweaking what vendors provide us…both encore and DVDSP.

I’m just wanting to know what people feel about these products. I know what my frustrations and workflows are…I’d just like to know what other people are using.

ie – In DVDSP, you can create a DVD without an end play action set for a title…there’s no way to check before build that all titles have end actions…but that will create a DVD that isn’t compatible with the DVD standard when sent to the duplicator. How does DVDSP help prevent that? Encore has “check project”

as far as format and build – maybe I just need to read the manual more in depth…

    Burn / Build / Format / Build-Format

Why 4 different options? I don’t understand…because with build-format, I can burn a disc with the destination field…then what do you use burn for? That is a bit confusing…always has been for me.

    Maybe you could explain it…

September 12, 2009 at 12:23 am in reply to: output HD timeline to SD DVD recorder via MXO2

I found a solution…if I try to do a “print to video” output using the SD-NTSC output of the matrox, the HD timeline looks like crap on my monitor and it is letterboxed, regardless of the option – center cut – anamorphic – letterboxed I have selected.

However, if I change the “set main channel output to” to SD…it plays the HD timeline in real time…anamorphic as I have selected…

That was my solution and works for me. I’ll update if I experience anything different. I found it interesting how the 2 methods gave me different results…I would have expected the same results from each.

I saw the feature…it’s on my screen…just no numbering is coming through. I’ve run through the VITC, LTC, still no success.

I was concerned that the MXO isn’t pushing it through…just was wondering if anyone else was using the same setup with success.

It was suggested by Walter – it’s an FSI – Flanders Scientific Inc.

I would assume it’s updated firmware…I just got it in a couple weeks ago.
