Well said. I agree…I’m finding FCP to be frustrating and eye opening at the same time! It’s a strange paradigm.

My favorite part of FCP is the keyboard customization…it’s absolutely amazing. No other program I’ve ever used comes close to the levels of customization you can do. Premier is close…but still inferior. AVID’s doesn’t even compare.

So in that respect – BRAVO FCP.

When it comes to losing renders when doing something as simple as placing a clip above a render to see what it looks like, then deleting it…and having to re-render. BOOO FCP! 🙂

I especially appreciate all the people (don’t you guys ever work?!) to answer questions for all of us learning FCP. Thanks guys!

  • I may be able to shed some light when I get into my work computer…I’m using a keyboard shortcut to add the dissolve and I’m not exactly sure what the key is calling for.

Let me look and I’ll post back…

I don’t know how to add a dissolve other than the way I setup on my keyboard. I don’t know how to add a dissolve (one step) that starts/ends/or is centered on cut.

  • I’ve only had experience with AVID Media Composer and now Final Cut and AVID absolutely DOESN’T need handles on an incoming clip with a dissolve that starts at cut. There’s no need for media…dissolve starts at frame 1 and media starts at frame 1.

  • Are you talking about the buttons at the top? That look like this= / /\ \

I thought was the orientation of the dissolve, start/centered/ending at cut? I’ve had no luck with those as well.

    -Jason

  • Really? No “start at cut” type of dissolve setting? That seems like a problem? I guess usually you should have handles…but what if you don’t? Is the workaround to work in a downstream fashion like I did?

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Does anyone use the keyboard shortcut to add an audio keyframe?

    Good to know…thanks guys.

I really need to learn motion, I keep rendering from AFX and I’d love to work natively in the FCP timeline.

I’ve got a workflow…just wondering if anyone has dual 24’s…I’d love to get a layout file and see how others are using their bins and windows.

I use Expose ALL the time…spaces doesn’t seem to work for me. I forced myself to use it for about a week and didn’t like it.

I’ve organized my windows so I can’t see through to the desktop…all windows are touching…I’ve opened my bins into new windows to fill the space. Seems to be working for me so far.

Great! Exactly what I was looking for.

I’m still getting used to macs. How do you work with multiple bins and seeing the desktop/other apps in the background? It’s confusing how macs work seeing through applications…I’m used to windows being 1 window and the application works in that window!

How do you setup your work area in Final Cut? I’ve got dual 24″ monitors.

    Nice little box –

So – Mac Pro hook up Mini -> RCA stereo?

    Matrox – XLR -> 1/4 jack?

Is that how you’d set this up?

If I only hook up one XLR to 1/4″ from my MXO2, does that push all channels mixed?
