I had this same problem when I was playing back 30p footage shot with a pdw700. It ended up being my audio/video settings, I was using a 1080 30p playback, but the footage was segmented frames, not true progressive…changed to 1080i and it worked fine. I’m sure u have played with this, just thought I’d add my experience.

Your post was a bit confusing…you mention a handycam, but you don’t have access to that original footage?
If your footage is in DVD specification (VIDEO_TS) folder structure…then you are now dealing with Standard Def video…possibly anamorphic (16×9) or letterboxed 4×3.
A good free program to turn DVD footage into “editable” format, like ProRes or NTSC-DV is MPEG Streamclip.
It requires a bit of knowledge of what you have, so you can convert it appropriately…do some reading around here on Creative Cow…this comes up often.

I’m pretty sure that aiff isn’t a supported audio codec for the DVD specification. Any authoring program will transcode aiff to PCM or dolby digital (ac3) format.
Dolby digital is pretty universal. It has a very low bit rate while maintaining high quality. Unless you have a need for PCM, I’d use ac3.

Obvious fx makes a plugin which copies current resolution of comp to clipboard. I use it routinely.

Best way to mux…could u open m2v with qt7 pro with mpeg2 decoder, open aiff….copy, add to movie, then save? Not sure if that is what u r thinking in regards to “mux”.
Also, 720×480 isn’t a square pixel aspect…you’ll have issues trying to keep it square pix with most encoders…they try to be dummy proof. Episode has some good controls for making “non standard” resulting files.

my WDTV Audio/Video settings allow for 1080i @ 50 – 60 – and 23.976Hz
As well as progressive matching options. Quick picture of my options:

One point of clarification…there are different models of this box. I have one at home and one at work that have slightly different options.
Additionally, there is a WDTV Live box that the most recent firmware (1.03.49) fixed “…MP4 problems with seeking and audio stopping”
The box I have had the most recent firmware update as 1 year ago (v1.03). My guess is that they have abandoned that box for their newer latest and greatest model.

I hadn’t ever taken a look at this, but I just did and some 1920 footage I shot awhile ago came in the AV attributes as “bottom field first” — which doesn’t even make sense, because HD is UFF.
Either way, the gopro footage ISN’T interlaced…so it’s a moot point. If you set field dominance on footage that doesn’t have fields…it doesn’t do anything.
