That sucks! I was really hopping that maybe other video outputs would be supported. Maybe I don’t have to upgrade yet then. Or maybe AJA will tap into it, that would be great.

WOW! For a moment I thought it was to good to be true, but this is from Adobes site.

    Instant video preview
See your broadcast graphics as they’ll appear to the audience, while you’re still building them. With one click, you can use an IEEE 1394 connection to preview your images on a television monitor.

Don’t know how it will work with the Kona, but I bet it will. Now I guess I have to upgrade to CS 2.

With the K2 your video output is an extra monitor unless used by an application that takes video out. Just drag your Photoshop file over (wherever you have placed your monitor) and it will be displayed. You can also just drag a portion of the image onto the monitor and used one of the Photoshop view modes (not exactly sure if that is what they are really called, but it is the left most button on the bottom of the tool bar) and you will get your image on the monitor.

    No, no you can’t!!!

Is firewire fast enough to carry a uncompressed SD video steam? Yes. Can you plug it into a TV and watch it? No, to do that you need a device like the AJA Io. That is what this post is about, not is firewire fast enough to play uncompressed video, obviously it is or they would not make the AJA Io.

Uncompressed video down firewire, is data, that has to have a device that can read it for it to be displayed. That is the only way to do it!!!

Be careful here. True NTSC video cannot be displayed on a computer monitor. It is a preview but it is not what what would go to tape. The only real way to monitor is with a video card (ie blackmagic or Kona) or a device like the AJA Io.

While the cinema desktop feature is cool, it is not an accurate preview. For the best result you should use a professional broadcast monitor that is calibrated correctly.

Now if you just want to see the video on a screen and don’t care about color, fields (interlacing) or an accurate playback speed, then these other solutions can work. Just don’t trust them to be accurate.

No you cannot play uncompressed video out firewire. You may be able to use a firewire hard drive to play uncompressed video, but to monitor it you need a video card or the Io. With the Io the uncompressed video does go down the firewire cable, but you need the Io device to covert the raw data to a video signal a monitor can see.
