On the Tech-Specs page they compare the Decklink Studio with the Decklink SDI.
Studio has all connections, Decklinck SDI only has SDI.

… to answer you question …
The Decklink SDI will only connect to a SDI capable monitor !!
that’s why there is a price difference of 300 dollar.

64bit refers to the processor; your’s is 64 bit
and refers to the OS; OSX is 64 bit

OSX can only address 3 GB/core,
So AE can use 3 GB for it’s main program and 3 GB/core for extra rendering power.

    AE 6.5 will run “ok”
    AE7 will run very sluggish
CS3 is written in Universal Code but I don’t think it will run great on a 1GHz G4

    … my advice would be…
If you’re planning to buy an Intel Mac soon, then buy CS4 at the same time,
Since you’re still working on a G4 and AE 5.5 at this time that little bit extra waiting won’t make a difference.

The Sheervideo-codec from Bitjazz might be an alternative.
32 bit + alpha and mostly about half the filesize of Animation.
you can find a demo here.

    try Quicktime PNG also.
32 bit + alpha, small filesize but processor intensive for encoding.

    oops,
trapcode’s plugin’s seem so standard to ae 😉

    For particle playgroud it’s not that different;
keep the precomp with the logo’s,
    and in Particle Playground:
    Layer Map: select the precomp
    Time Offset Type: Absolute random
Random Time Max: just tweak it !

    in Particle World:
    Particle Type: Textured Square
    Texture Layer: select the precomp
    Texture Time: Birth
    ……….

    same thing, different names

    or, watch your tutorial indeed,
a bit difficult for a beginner but the best way to learn.

do you have multiprocessing enabled ? try to disable it.

I ran into this problem a few times, mostly with multiprocessing.

Make a comp with all logo’s,
make them 1 frame long, so if you have 20 logo’s, the comp will be 20 frames long.
Drag that comp into you other comp with the particles.
In your particle engine, select your logo-comp as the source and set your source-timing to “still frame – random”

    done !

ALT+drag your new comp from the project window onto the “to be replaced comp” in your timeline.

  • There is a better way,
but not really a faster one.
You’ll need to use masks to make a clean roto.
Search the cow tutorials and internet for rotoscoping in AE.
Use separate masks for arms, legs and body.
