Please forgive me but I am confused by your answer. Does that mean because I have all menu buttons on a single main menu that I cannot specify the next menu button to go to. For instance if I am at the main menu and hit play for the first highlighted button “Mom’s Interview” and it plays through completion, I cannot set an end action to go to highlight the button for “Dad’s Interview” rather than the default which is to jump back to highlighting “Mom’s Interview”? As usual, I appreciate you taking the time to respond so quickly.

I tried the above technique of changing the still image length. That did change how long imported still media displayed but it did not work for generated media. Since I have several pieces of generated media in the project, I was hoping there was a way I could set a default length like I can for still images. Since this did not work, I tried the second technique and it seems to work fine. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.

I have a Hewlett Packard AMD 3400 laptop computer with 1 gig of ram. I, like the others, attach external hard drives for editing and capturing. The computer works great. I like the fact that my model has a PCMIA card slot so I purchased a PCMIA card with two firewire ports just in case I wanted to go that route. So far USB 2.0 seems to work fine for capturing and editing. You will also find that you can get 40 gig pocket sized 5400 rpm hard drives at a pretty reasonable price now.

According to my DVX100a manual, the only way to get true 16:9 footage is through the use of the adapter so the footage is really shot in 4:3 with black borders. Thank you for responding to my post.

Yes, I knew about the masking and lost pixels when I shot this. I am shooting a very close up of a waterfall to slow down in post – the surrounding footage was not important. The camera is new to me so I am trying out the different settings. I know not to shoot in squeeze mode due to the way the image is digitally processed but I thought I would give letterbox a shot. I am getting the impression I should just leave the camera in the 4:3 shooting mode unless I can afford to buy the 16:9 adapter for $800 – not likely at this time.

Thank you your imput on the processing the footage in DVDA. The shot is not very long. I think I’ll try your suggestions and see what happens.

Thank you for getting back to me. If I am using DVDA for my authoring program, would I save the footage as a DVDA Architect video stream and also check the box that says to stretch the video to fill the frame?

Thank you for clearning up how to white balance. Naturally, I ran over to the camera and did what you said. By going to two different lighting situations, I could see clearly the difference in white balancing. Thank you again for responding. Up next is trying to figure out what I am suppose to do with a focus card but I think DV Rack walks me through it.

Please forgive my ignorance. I have been reading Barry’s book as well as the owner’s manual and I am still confused about how to do a manual white balance. Would it be possible for you or anyone else to walk me through the steps. I understand the preset but both of my A and B switches always show Bch unless I toggle the A switch on the side of the camera to the point where an A shows up on the LCD screen and Bch goes away. Do I get to manual mode for white balancing through a menu item? Once I find the manual balance, do I then focus the camera on a whiteboard and shoot about 5 seconds of video to establish the white color or do I do it some other way? My older camera did not have manual white balance capability so this is all new to me.
