Thank you for for the tip. I plan to do that as well as shoot another test in the house where things are a lot quieter. Maybe I was picking up more wind noise than I thought I was.

Thank you for responding. An example of the noise I am hearing:

I was outside and had my camera pointed towards a wind chime. When I listen to the playback through DV Rack on the computer, I hear a mixture of static and wind noise but hardly any wind chime sound. When I play back the video from the camera directly, I hear the wind chime and much less wind/static noise. If you have any thoughts on things I should be checking in my setup, let me know. I just now starting thinking that I should experiment a little further with some indoor shots and then compare the results :-).

Donatello (and anyone else willing to help) –

You mentioned using DV Rack to capture to your hard drive. I also use DV Rack to capture to a laptop. I am currently using a 5400 rpm external drive hooked up to the laptop as my capture source. The drive is attached using the usb 2.0 port and the camera is attached to the firewire port. My question – it seems I have a lot of static noise when I review the DV Rack captured video. When I review the same video in the camera, it is not nearly as noisy. Have you ever had this problem? I should mention my firewire cable is not the greatest but I have never had dropped frames. Is the quality of the firewire cable that important or is there something else I am missing when I capture video using DV Rack?
