I you are wanting to use the camera as the intermediary in the system, just as we do now with a firewire deck, yes, of course it will work. The camera has a component analog output and so whatever you purchase for monitoring should be able to handle that.

No it is a choice of one or the other, because the camera would have to be running two codecs.

No the internal tape drive can only record DV, and DVCPRO50 is a different codec, as in less compression and 4:2:2, so for the same answer as the one above it cannot happen.

Dan, while your assessment of them being all zeros and ones is correct,I think what Barry was trying to say is that unlike HDV, DVCPRO is frame independent. There is more compression going on in HDV in order to get the signal to a low enough data rate so that it can be written to a DV tape.

Actually that would not be possible as it would take 16 record heads and a much larger tape transport and the tape itself would not be a ME tape, it would by virtue of the SMPTE standard have to be a Metal Particle tape. DVCPRO HD was engineered for High Definition Production from the ground up: 4:2:2, independent frame resolution and uncompressed audio as starters. It is not a MPEG2 algorithm but an extension of DV.

;-), If you look at them in the same way you do tape, this is an argument that will never be understood. Let’s just say that for a X amount you will never need to purchase acquisition tapes again, for as long as you own the camera. (Unless you decided to use the mini-DV tape drive)

In full 60 frame 720P or 1080i recording it uses about 1 GB per minute. In 720P/24 it is about 24/60ths of that. So on an 8 gB card, as an example, you would get 8 minutes of 1080i or 720P/60, but in 720P/24 you would have 20 minutes. In DVCPRO50 that same 8 GB card would get you 16 minutes of time.

Does this camera have true manual lens control??(like JVC-100)

No it is not an interchangeable lens, but I believe it will be a very high caliber lens and will have controls that will be competitive in the contrl arena. Plus it will have the added benefit of being able to auto-focus, when that seems like the necessary function.

Not sure what you mean. It is not a CMOS chip set at all, but rather CCD, but not sure if that is relative to the question. Sorry.

Actually it has been very enjoyable. I decided to have an open mind on food this time around. I mean Japanese food always looks like some art form, very delicate in its presentation, with details about what it is, somewhat mysterious. This time though, because we dined in more intimate groups I was able to ask what stuff was and come to discover some very interesting food combinations that I never would have thought of, but outstandingly good. One was a finely shredded dried fish with green onions, hearts of eggplant and finely chopped ginger, and don’t forget the soy. Delicious.

Anyhow yes it has been a very rewarding and enjoyable trip. Looking forward to that 15 hours of plane travel back home. Hah!

Hi Luis,
Well we are aiming for end of August. And from what I have seen here, in Osaka, it will be close. Remember the DVX first showed images at WEVA in August, so that is probably first. If I can get file footage before I wil share, but not sure. All I can say is that I am pretty jazzed.

And Toke, you are talking about the Varicam camera? We will not see more details about that until the new year. Interestingly enough some of the work that is being done on the little camera is shared with the development track for the bigger camera. That is the frame rate stuff on the P2 card. From there I know nothing else and am not even willing to comment more.

Hi Bill,

Yes the AG-HVX200 will do 1080/24P but in a pull down just like the DVX does 24P. It will do it in 2 different patterns, just like the DVX, 2:3 or 2:3:3:2. Should be very cool. So when editing, it can be extracted to the timeline and then record out to like HDCAM or D5HD.
