While I am not sure of the pricing on the VariCam P2, I rather doubt it will be in the $20,000 range, the chipset being 2/3″ HD is pretty expensive. So while I would love to say yes, we will have something in your price range, I don’t think so.

Sorry,the reason I have not responded sooner is that I have been in Japan, still am for that matter, but with long meeting days and other responsibilities I have been pretty busy. Plus since I was here, I thought I would ask the guys that really would know.

So maybe the 2/3″ HDV is the next camera for you, sorry.

Hi,

The HVX200 will record DVCPRO HD in two flavors 720P and 1080i and DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV. It only does the DVCPRO formats on the P2 card.

No, if there is nothing on the first card you want just work in loop mode. It wiill record over the firdt card. Otherwise just offload the first.

Ah,I now understand the question. Go ahead and off load the first card. When you load in the second card it is matched up. No worries.

You could divide them afterword. Keep in mind since it is not something that you decided to do at the appropriate moment, it could be in the minddle of a sentence. So my suggestion would be to bring them together and make a decision. If you didn’t want to do that and just wanted to cut of the end of the clip without rejoining, I believe you can do that, but let me double check. Might be a couple of days before I post again, will be traveling this week.

But the SPX800 does not have an HD chip set, I thought that is what you said you wanted, was a camera that is switchable betewwn HD, and SD with better lenses. Help refine what it is you want.

It is absolutely seamless, metadata on each card points to the other and thus when the medai is rejoined in the computer it is one clip. No ifs, and, or buts. It is one clip.

Hi,

Kevin you are right, there was a P2 Varicam shown in the theater presentation. Scheduled delivery is next year, mid summer. There was also a D5 HD camera shown, and this is the beauty of P2, it is format aganostic.

Well I don’t believe this is going to be true. According to the VP of Marketing on the 15th of February they said if the pace continued they would have 6000 in the field by NAB. Then the rumor came at NAB that they had sold 35,000. So if we are to believe Alec Shapiro, that same VP, whom I know to be a pretty straight shooter; how did they manufacture and sell 29,000 machines in 2 months? The statistic is questionable.

So to finish the thought here, they would have to sell close to 80,000 units a month to sell that many by the time the HVX200 shows up. Not only is that improbable, it would be virtually impossible.
