No they use the pixel shift to gain more resolution, like up to 4K and that is then downsized to 2K. This gives like 1000 lines of resolution off of 1/4″ imagers.
Hope that helps,

Reset your camera to factory specs and see if that fixes it. Odd behavior.

Hi,
I think that the AVCCAM viewer can and does work, but it is not a long view solution product. It was adopted out of the consumer side, and is fairly low performance in what a professional might want it to do.
There is a product that is very robust made by Imagine Products that does a very nice job. In fact they have a couple of tools that I think would be invaluable in the process of working with AVCHD.
See:
https://www.imagineproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=32
https://www.imagineproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=2
These maintain the initial file naming structure, which AVCCAM Viewer doesn’t do.
I hope this helps,
Jan

Try here: https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft/upghvx200_e.htm
While it doesn’t mention it in the update notes, it should get you there as it the most current version of firmware. Let me know if it doesn’t work, and I can find the answer.
Best regards,
Jan

July 31, 2012 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Panasonic HPX300 excessive noise and grain.Hi,
Just looked at this list of Scene files and the only issue I have is that the DRS seems to be programmed in to either a 1 or a 3 level. DRS is a feature that when used when needed provides an excellent means of controlling a very wide dynamic range. Used when not needed, will result in noisy pictures. The circuit is always in comparison mode, dividing and conquering over 4028 segments on every frame. If you need it you’ll be happy you have it. If you leave it on for normal shooting beware that you maybe undermining your desired noise floor.
Yes I know it is on a User button to activate, but you need to know how this works and use accordingly.
Best,
Jan

June 4, 2012 at 8:01 pm in reply to: P2 card clips seem damaged after importBritney,
It has been my experience that the folks that have issues are simply doing a drag and drop. This is not the best way as nothing is looking out for the data. So at the minimum use P2 Contents Manager, https://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/sales_o/p2/cms/index.html to offload your data. There are other programs out there that offer more options like the ones from Imagine Products. Any program that is out there to protect the integrity of your data is definitely encouraged.
If the clips are fine on the camera, your suspect in transfer or the NLE. if you have protected the data on the transfer, then it is most likely somewhere in the NLE.
I hope this makes sense,
Jan

June 4, 2012 at 7:11 pm in reply to: 6 Panasonic AG HPX370 Cameras Look Like CrapHi,
Just came across this thread, and am finding that in contrast to all the happy customers out there, you obviously are not so happy. Sorry to hear that. I do know that 1/3″ imagers will have diffraction issues outside of the sweet spot on the lens, which on the 17X is like F4.8 to about F8, and this may account for some of your issues but not all that I can imagine.
So it occurs to me that I would like to check your scene file and user file loaded onto a camera here in NJ. If you would, please save both to an SD Card and zip that folder. Send that zipped folder to me at jan.crittenden@us.panasonic.com.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Jan

May 30, 2012 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Corrupted P2 Transfer using a generator. Not sure that you can fix this, but I would transfer the Contents folder back to the P2Card and see if the camera can fix it. I would say off hand though this is a long shot.

May 30, 2012 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Is the AC130 a good camera to learn on?Which edit system are you using? If FCP, your workflow would be pretty easy with the AVCCAM importer from Panasonic.
The MPEG4 codec on the 130 is years ahead of the MPEG2 in the Canon. Quality difference between the two would be minimal in the codecs, but that is because the data rate is higher on the Canon. Look at the feature set for your ultimate decision.

May 24, 2012 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Strange audio sync problems inducing slight panic! And they recorded on your camera? Okay, it has to be in your setup file some where. Trash your preferences and redefine, the project anew. It has to be somewhere in this set up that it is getting odd info.
Hope this helps,
